Default Tip 1 to contractors: don't show up to work drunk

What other excuse could there possibly be?

It wasn't the contractors fault, the nails were defective.

See what happens when you use the lowest bidder. The next bid included nailing the nails 3/4 of the way in and that damn high bidder wanted to put them all the way in. But luckily, the low bidder was a good salesman and convinced the homeowner that the nails were only held in by the first 1/4 of the nail anyway, so there was no need to put the nail all the way in.

Crap, I can't even keep from laughing while I am typing it.
