| Inspection Education & Training This is a general forum for inspectors to discuss their educational experience, and to ask questions of InterNACHI's Education Committee. This forum is dedicated to the memory of InterNACHI member and educator Gerry Beaumont. Gerry was an avid proponent of education for inspectors and will be sorely missed. |

Text in section 16.3 states:
Where the veneer is attached to the wood wall by corrugated sheet metal ties, the air gap separating the veneer from the wall should not be more than 1 inch. Each tie should be spaced no more than 24 inches on-center horizontally and vertically. Each tie should support no more than about 3 square feet of wall area. The graphic directly below states: "minimum air space 1"" Common sense says that the maximum is 1", but I don't want to assume. Which is it? Thank you! This has been corrected. There's overwhelming opinion, including code and building science, that suggests a recommended minimum air space of 1 inch. The air space should not be less than one inch. Considering an 8-inch concrete block, you have 3 and 1/2 inches for the brick, 3 and 1/2 inches for the stud and an air gap of about 1 inch. The phrase "should not be more than" has been changed to "should not be less than." Thank you. Iron sharpens iron. |
