Inspection Education & Training This is a general forum for inspectors to discuss their educational experience, and to ask questions of InterNACHI's Education Committee. This forum is dedicated to the memory of InterNACHI member and educator Gerry Beaumont. Gerry was an avid proponent of education for inspectors and will be sorely missed.

AZ Standards

OK Dan this is the problem with the new checklist and the BTR. I have posted the relevant areas of the AZ SOP no where does it say in the SOP that i need to describe the filtering in the HVAC system.
No where in the SOP does it say I have to describe the supports and insulation for the plumbing.

No where does the SOP say I have to call out the material of the foundation.

The NEW checklist must be for a new SOP. I will contact the BTR tomorrow and voice my concern.

Having read plans and specs a couple of times before in my life, I had problems when I first sent in my reports to the State. They asked for the water piping size in my first report. Not Required, but I acquiesced. They wanted the SOP included, I included them and then they did not want them included they wanted them referenced.

The SOP Defines observe as
Quote:
Observe:
The act of making a visual examination of a system or component and reporting on its condition.
Be careful Dale.

Brian... I've heard the argument a few times so I'm not real sure of the answer, One answer I heard.
Looking at he definition of Observe in the glossary.
The act of making a visual examination of a system or component and reporting on it's condition, applies

I just report on what I see Dan.

I copied observe out of the SOP. As that is the spec so to speak. This is what turned me off to ASHI to start with. In AZ ASHI, wrote the SOP and then educated the BTR on the SOP. Then once the SOP is in place legacy inspectors (ASHI) reviewing practice reports just make up the requirements to pass. And the BTR just goes along with it.

(As my reports exceed the SOP I really don't care that much)

Now I go back and reread the new checklist and it does not 100% correspond to the existing AZ SOP. What will tomorrows checklist hold?
How can the BTR just change an existing Law/statute without oversight? Heck it is almost like it was devised by NACHI
