Inspection Education & Training This is a general forum for inspectors to discuss their educational experience, and to ask questions of InterNACHI's Education Committee. This forum is dedicated to the memory of InterNACHI member and educator Gerry Beaumont. Gerry was an avid proponent of education for inspectors and will be sorely missed.

Dan, you harm ASHI every time you post. Think about what you just did!

You unwittingly made up a fake, bogus association that despite it sounding like the worst diploma mill one could dream up... it actually has tougher requirements than the real ASHI you belong to! http://www.ashi.org/inspectors/join/...plication1.htm

Are you sure you're not a NACHI member at heart?

Nick.. if your going to keep promoting ASHI you should at least tell the full story.... One of the most important benifits for a new inspector, [ASHI associates] after they complete their basic HI training, that you fail to post is ASHI members provide a mentorship program to new inspectors to help them practice in the field on live inspections, after the inspection the mentor reviews and crituques the new inspectors reports, all this is done with members that are highly respected [ and all have well over 1000 inspections ] in the profession, all this is provided at no or a minuimal charge to a new insector prior to marketing that inspector as "certified " to the public.

Dan

Can you give us the stats on how many new ashi members paid $0 for tag along and how many paid a fee? And what is minimal to you?

Now this a money making scheme, for those seasoned inspectors at ashi. What a coincidence just before Christmas!!!

Mario

Yea. really, I couldn't belive it either... One time he says that he's going to cap membership and the next time he offers unbelivable benifits.

The best information I have is everybody needs to sign up real soon as one or two things are going to happen... either the experenced electrictal inspecors are going to get mad and demand higher standards, or the owner will in fact cap membership.. more than likley it will be the eletricians as the owner has threatend to take this action several time before , form what I gather he sees that other orgs are gaining members and threatining to put a cap on membership is just another attempt to raise revenues.

NOTE: On the dues the org is a non profit org, so everyone needs to send cash only so no profit is shown on the books.

And one last question, isn't ASHI mostly made up of Candidates?

Don't go off on a tangent... it is a YES or NO question.

Mario.. I honestly can't answer that in full.

I know of three or more local inspectors that offer it for free and some will do it for a little as 50.00.

Some may think thats a lot of money but you have to consider the training inspector is liabile [ to the state] for any mistakes the new inspector makes on his or her report and if the inspector is providing a true in field traing he will have to spend an additional 2-3 hrs per inspection with the new inspector.

Personally I don't feel that I am fully qualified but I have offered to do it at no charge to 3 people in the last 6 months, when I emailed them to say I had an inspection they could go on they never contacted me. Go figure

I think Dan could use a little help in learning how to use that newfangled spell checking device himself, Nick.

No offense to individual ASHI members but you have to admit that the average ASHI member is computer illiterate and types with his thumbs, writes his reports with a pencil, or has his wife type it.

Candidates riding along with ASHI members is like the blind leading the blind.

You will notice, as predicted, Dan refused to answer the question about what percentage of ASHI's membership are come-only-with-cash, no quizzes, no exams, no mocks, no courses, no qualifications whatsoever Candidates.

Dan, Nick, et al - The following was attended by representatives of CAHPI for first hand opportunities to observe and participate in peer reviews. All I can offer is that we all can learn by and from each other and this is one example of sharing such experiences.

Meee go of on a tangent. you must have me confused with some one else

I'm not sure of exact percentages.. .. lets assume that 50% is true, with that being true that would make one experienced inspector [ with 250 plus inspections and many of them with 1000s of inspection experience] for every new inspector... what a better way for a new inspector to learn from his peers.

Can you provide that one on one benifit for you new members???
