Inspection Education & Training This is a general forum for inspectors to discuss their educational experience, and to ask questions of InterNACHI's Education Committee. This forum is dedicated to the memory of InterNACHI member and educator Gerry Beaumont. Gerry was an avid proponent of education for inspectors and will be sorely missed.

Nick... Where did I call you a ho... .

If you recall the email on post #17 was from an email you or some one using your email and signing your name sent to me.

I like the way you twist things around to make you smell like a rose, that one ain't gonna fly with me as I NEVER call any body names in writing, on an email or open BB.

I won't stoop that low.

If you follow all my posts, The closest that I ever came to name calling [no name was mentioned] was stating that the BTR can now see what an a.. runs this org 2.5 years ago.

By the way what ever happened to health insurance for all nacho members thru nachi. Guess I'll have to join nahi to get that benefit.

Angry Re: Nick. You wouldn't lie

I have a simple question - why allow a person to add their comments to a private message board who is not a member?

I see this all the time on other threads - Their input is sometimes dervisive, not always correct, a sometimes only meant to corrupt NACHI, or get other NACHI members responding like crazy, while they sit back and laugh -

There is a lot to do, I want to build NACHI, because I have found that NACHI has helped my business - I don't give a **** about other certification orgs - except to recognize them as out there, my competition.

http://www.allbuildinginspection.com I went to the web site and did some looking around: I must say that I was sorely disappointed and feel the site is a criminal act. I could find no supporting documentation of any kind to verify the claim the inspector is actually a state registered engineer; moreover, I can not determine what discipline this person practices engineereing in… (Mechanical, electrical structural, industrial)

There were links that clearly implied this inspector is members of both NACHI and ASHI, but again there is no supporting documentation other than implication of this fact. I want to see a name and a member number! If this individual was in Texas, TBPE, and TREC agents would knock his door down and cart him to jail for a variety of infractions. I guess this guys legal name is Mr, Allbuildinginspection.com and I could not actually find the name of the inspector on the site, though I only spent 15 minutes looking... Ethical business practices dictate this be very apparent to the general public right on your home page.

Although the federal government does not regulate home inspectors, they do regulate the interstate commerce which may from time to time arise between citizens of the several states! I am a citizen of Texas but he is located in Florida, and his website is pushing the edge of unethical business practice and possibly, deceptive trade practices across state lines, and that is a matter of federal jurisdiction.

Ask yourself the following questions:
  • Who is the inspector(s)?
  • What are their precise qualifications to practice residential inspections?
  • What are their qualifications to inspect commercial facilities and property?
  • What agency regulates them in the parent or practicing jurisdiction?
  • What are their engineering qualifications and disciplines?
  • What agency regulates the engineering function of this business?
If you can’t quickly answer the above questions when you visit a website, it is very close to engaging in a deceptive trade practice… make sure your NACHI websites clearly answer these questions to cover your butts… The general public will tolerate an inexperienced inspector, or even one with little affiliation, but they will not tolerate a deceptive inspector, nor should NACHI

JEEZ!!!!!! All I wanted to do is have a nice normal first chapter meeting here in Albuquerque, Maybe if we offered free pizza and beer you would not be so negative. Oh well I for one never doubted Steve's credentials.
I have spoken to him several times and he knows what he is talking about.
This is going to be a great meeting and I would suggest that you attend and see for yourself if you have a problem with Steve's credentials.

If you call someone a homo, and he really is a homo, are you calling him straight? Next time I have an argument with my domestic partner, I think I shall call him straight. That should help me win the argument.

Many of us come to this profession with past construction credentials & licenses. After a few years we realize that maintaining the continuing education, bonding and insurance necessary to keep those licenses active becomes burdensome to home a inspector no longer practicing under that license.

In the competitive world of home inspecting relying on past construction experience to gain an edge only works for the first year, after that you are judged by your current level of expertise. Many home inspectors realize maintaining obsolete licenses becomes a drain of time, money and energy that can be better spent focused on our current profession. That is the reason that some very qualified individuals like Steve Jawitz and others have what seem to be less qualifications as time goes on.

[Rant]
It would not be surprising to find out the people who quickly point fingers around here have no construction experience, no past construction profession to protect, were clueless when starting out and now demand that we who have spent a lifetime involved in construction teach them all we know so that they too can be successful.
[/Rant-Off]

I've never agreed with that statement, and, indeed, most entrepreneurship and business programs throughout the college and university educational system don't either. Most state that it is 80% enthusiasm and 20% technical know-how/experience that will get you started as a self-employed business person. I've always found that to be true.

Whenever I inspect a house, I also inspect the contents of the house. A beautifully framed picture in the home office at one of yesterday's inspections was these simple words:

Quote:
People don't care how much you know
Until they know how much you care. . .
. . . about them.
That's always been my motto but I've never written it down. Now I have it in writing.

Russel, no need for you to make excuses for your lack of construction experience, whatever you did prior to home inspecting has served you well.

For me... When it comes to home inspection or brain surgery I'll always take the experienced expert who is keenly focused on delivering the highest technical level of professional expertise possible over the well meaning, touchy-feely but technically inferior service provider who's chief concern is how I feel; it is a personal choice I can live with.

I guess I'll continue to clutter my wall with licenses and certificates of achievement to compensate for my apparent lack of caring.
