| Inspection Education & Training This is a general forum for inspectors to discuss their educational experience, and to ask questions of InterNACHI's Education Committee. This forum is dedicated to the memory of InterNACHI member and educator Gerry Beaumont. Gerry was an avid proponent of education for inspectors and will be sorely missed. |

Hello,
I am currently looking at the different online course for home inspection. I want to have a course that is approved by the canadian home inspector association. My choices are: carson dunlop, ashi course, ahit course, phii course. there is substantial difference in the fee for the course: carson dunlop is more than 3K, the ashi course is said to be made by carson dunlop, I don't know if it's the same but it's 2K, and the ahit course is 1K... I don't mind paying the fee if it's worth it... If anyone has taken these course, I would like to have a feedback, would you take the same course if you had to? would you choose another one? Is there one that is more respected than the other in the industry? thanks a lot Alexis |

If you are going to spend $3k for a home inspection course, do it in person. Pick a nice warm spot and spend the 2 weeks. (ITA in Vegas was a great time) There is a big difference between online and live classroom training. It doesn't matter how many pictures or videos you watch, it is much different if you can actually touch and feel and move around the different items.

I agree. I took the AHIT Online course, then after finishing it, I went and took they're classroom course. The money I spent on the online course went towards the classroom cost, so it didn't cost me extra, and I felt it gave me a head start. Theres a lot to learn, and it was nice not having to try to cram everything in your head all at once.

Ditto on Stephens reply. Go with ITA! You will get way more out of a physical school.

There is still no comparison when it comes to live classroom training vs. video or online. Classroom, especially with physical labs is far superior. I am presenting to a class at the ITA Denver school again next month. It is one of a few that are still open.
Classroom has some advantages, but online has more advantages overall, IMHO: http://www.nachi.org/classroomsharm.htm Nick Gromicko, Certified Master Inspector Find a Home Inspector "Just as iron sharpens iron, one man sharpens another." Proverbs 27:17 |

Agreed, and the Community Colleges typically have better equipped labs than most HI schools.

Nothing compares to hands on training from a Certified Master Inspector during actual home inspections. Pay him the 3K and follow him for awhile. Class room training is only beneficial if the instructor takes the time to teach you while actually doing a home inspection in the field. I've done both!
