When buying a new house and it is mandatory to get an inspection done, can you do the inspection yourself, or must you have someone not affiliated with you do the inspection?

Some developers make it impossible for an outside inspector to gain access to the site prior to ownership, in which case you can have the inspection done the day you close.

A third party report will hold more wieght, especially if it is professionally done.
