If gas fired ceramic logs have been installed it is now a gas appliance and not a fireplace (though it could be converted back to a fireplace, for now it is a gas appliance). Rules for gas appliances differ from those for fireplaces. For instance: a gas appliance may not have a manually operated flue damper.
