Larry, there are several criteria to be taken into account with stucco, there is a maximum sqft area and also maximum height or width dimensions.

I hear you Len, unfortunately there are just not enough bad installers to go around, some people actually end up with stucco installed by people who know what the hell they are doing

Yes, your question asks about square footage, which is typically area, so one would want the maximum...that's my thinking.

144 square feet

Also no single dimension should be more than 18ft in length

For what types of stucco are you referencing?

Is there a Code or Standard that references the 144 square feet requirement?

Hi Joe,

the requirement is for cementatious stucco installed over timber framed walls a nd come from the ASTM std for stucco as referenced by most if not all cementatious stucco manufacturers installation instructions.

Standard Specification for
Installation of Lathing and Furring to Receive Interior and Exterior Portland Cement-Based Plaster1



7.11.4.1
Control Joints—Control (expansion and contraction)
joints shall be installed in walls to delineate areas not
more than 144 ft
2(13.4 m2) and to delineate areas not more than
100 ft
2(9.30 m2) for all horizontal applications, that is, ceilings,
curves, or angle type structures.
7.11.4.2 The distance between control joints shall not exceed
18 ft (5.5 m) in either direction or a length-to-width ratio
of 2
12 to 1. A control joint shall be installed where the ceiling
framing or furring changes direction.

The texture is very nicely done. We're seeing a lot of that here lately. They must have a new training class - You see so few quality installations like this.

This quality piece was done by "Wreckham & Skarper Installations" and is titled "Relief map of the moon" It was done in thier friday afternoon on the way back from the pub period, which is recognised as one of the best periods for random application art.
