Anyone know how to lock your desktop items so they stay in place? Every now and then they'll revert back to a default position and I don't want them to cover up my wallpaper.

Try right clicking on your desktop...

select "View"
Uncheck "Auto Arrange"
click "Align to grid"
click "Show Desktop Icons".

I think David's got you covered. The Auto Arrange is what will cause them to realign. Also resizing e the resolution of your monitor will cause them to move too.

Sorry... Win XP Pro

Try right clicking on your desktop...

select "View"
Uncheck "Auto Arrange"
click "Align to grid"
click "Show Desktop Icons".

Yeah, all that's been previously done and to no effect. It happens maybe once a week. There seems to be a 'hiccup' and that's when everything moves back. Of course it only happens on my login account and not my wife's.

There's a registry hack which will prevent other programs from moving the icons:

To lock your desktop icons into place, first arrange it carefully the way you want it to be, then open up the registry editor (start->run, type regedit and hit enter).

Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Policies\Explorer. Right-click in the right pane and select New, DWORD Value name NoSaveSettings and press the Enter key.

Right-click on the new NoSaveSettings item and select Modify. Enter 1 in the Value data box.

After this, whenever you restart Windows, your settings will return to their current state.

What's this 'restart' you talk about?? Darn computer never goes off unless there's a power loss. I just went through the regedit and made the addition. Time will tell.

Thanks guys

Hey Dom....

If you are extremely bored and want to write some code, I need a new program. Ebay's got it's doorbusters going on. I need a program to run through the site and pick out and bid when it randomly puts up it's $1.00 auctions. Unfortunately the Corvette was already won. Thanks

Jeff

Hey Jeff,

I would , but too many people already have done it for me. Damn, a Corvette for $1.00. Can you pick up a few for me?

I need to try that advise, as my icons rearrange every month or so, and it bugs the heck out of me.
Thanks for the tips.

Hello DM
A new Question - My email address is on my website, contact page.
I don't know but I suspect that a spam worm has searched a trillion webpages and found my address sitting there like a lame duck.
To prevent this, could leaving a space help divert this, ie,
myname @ mymail.com? Any other suggestion?
