Russ..you already bought the thing...if it doesn't work like you want..its too late
Personally, I think that 500mhz is too slow to run the boxed software...but i think if you have a checklist in word..it should be fine. I would amp up the memory if I were you...128 is not much with Windows 2k Pro....JMHO>... |

Actually this already comes with a write software pre-installed.
Russ, all you do is write onto the screen with the pen and it translates it immediately into text. And actually Tony, this laptop is an absolute powerhouse for the use. It may not be alot for gaming or multimedia, but for what Russ is going to be using it for, it's going to be awesome. I can't imagine why it would have been FEMA's tablet of choice otherwise. That is a rugged job with high capacity. |

500 mhz is NOT slow and he can upgrade to a larger hard drive for very cheap. I've got all the links.

Wendy's right on that one, Tony; as I said, it's a Word doc.
I'll just have to play with it, acc to Gerry. The challenge is, even I can't read my writing sometimes - how can this box read it? |

I knew you meant the PV Tony.
For a tablet, it's not that slow. Unless you intend to purchase a multimedia or gaming tablet. Observe. Russ,
You'll be amazed at how simple and quickly this program turns your chicken scratch into text. It's one of the most popular tablets for doctors as well. It has ATI Rage Mobility with 3-D Accelerator PenX2.02 is the writing program if you want to Google it to learn more about it. Oh the RAM is 256. Last edited by wforsyth; 3/5/06 at 5:45 PM.. |

I guess a bad trait of mine is not letting anything go....so here you go WF....
That Dell has a 1.7 GHZ processor...the 400mhz is referring to : FSB Short for Front Side Bus, FSB is also known as the Processor Bus, Memory Bus, or System Bus and connects the CPU with the main memory and is used to connect to other components within the computer. The FSB can range from speeds of 66 MHz, 133 MHz, 100 MHz, 266 MHz, 400 MHz, and up. The FSB is now another important consideration when looking at purchasing a computer Motherboard or a new computerA gigahertz is 1,000 MHz. So a 500 MHz chip runs at half a gigahertz. You are right..it should be fine for light computing..but to state that 500 mhz is fast..is not correct. In fact: Watch Out: 500-MHz PowerPCs Planned for 1997 Tom R. Halfhill In a bid to create the world's fastest microprocessor, a Silicon Valley start-up company is developing a PowerPC chip that combines fast-switching bipolar transistors with conventional CMOS technology. If the hybrid CPU lives up to expectations, it could exceed 500 MHz and deliver three times the performance of today's fastest Pentiums. Last edited by tneumann; 3/5/06 at 6:52 PM.. |

That, is not something to brag about Tony. I believe it is a character flaw, not an attribute.

Character flaws come in many forms WF...I already admitted mine.........and of course I have many others...which I freely admit.
I am however, very careful not to speak in absolutes. |

Russ Et Al, If one were to use a Word Checklist style report, Import the file into windows journal. The word portion remains as hard copy. Your scribbles can remain scribbles or be recognized and typed out. It works geat on checklists.
I also use it for getting last minute signatures and changes on my inspection agreement. Great software tool. tg ps. Wendy - Chill! Your BP is out the top lately! ;>) |
