It was a good suggestion

Yup, I'm going to try and put one out tonight as I'd like to get a new full version out and there's been a lot of recent additions for you guys to test out, especially on the smaller screens. It just depends on if I can compete some of the other features that are partially done.

Allan,
What version of Windows XP do you have? Does it include Service Pack 2 on it (it would if it was bought within the last few years)? There's a note in the ASUS book that says Windows XP without SP2 does not recognize USB DVD drives, which your Samsung Writer is, that might be the issue.

If you're getting a blank at step 6 (selecting a boot device), this is telling me that the bios isn't recognizing the drive which occurs before even looking at XP so my previous comment wouldn't be the problem here. This might sound silly, but is the external DVD player powered on? Many of them require an external power source separate from USB. Can you hear the CD spinning?

How big is your flash card? Is it a USB thumbrive (flash drive) or a SD or MMC flash card?
I have Windows XP Professional version 2002. Single disc. Can' install as I can't get theEEE to startup the Samsung SE-S204 Writemaster. Can't seem to upload onto the computer.
Have 4 gig Sandisc Micromate and 4 gig zmate Don't know anything else about them.
Driver was turned on and seyup according to installation sheet.

Don't know may have to try to download the driver for this writer via internet once I ever find it

Allan,

The driver won't matter until after you have windows installed. It sounds like the computer is not seeing the usb cdrom drive. You can call ASUS and see if they know about an imcompatability with that CD drive.

Try copying the Windows XP CD data onto one of the Flash Cards on another computer. Then put the flash card into the EEE and boot from that.

If you still can't get it to work it might be the usb cd drive that it's not detecting because it's bad or it just won't see it. I don't have one at home, but I have a few at work I can test from on Monday.

If I have time I'll try installing XP from a flash drive this weekend (I think I have a copy at home here somewhere).

Worse comes to worse you can try another CD-ROM drive, or mail it to me and I'll do it for you. Or you can just run the program on the linux OS it comes with!

Mike,
I would suggest installing software called PenOffice on the Q1. This handwriting software integrates better with the OS so you don't have to write in a different area of the screen sometimes and is easier to make changes to the text when it does recognize something wrong. There should be a demo version available.
