Hello,
I'm thinking of getting the carson dunlop course. I have the option to take it for 3500$ including tuition, exam and certificate of completion. I can also buy it from bestinspectors.net for 1900 us with a bunch of other stuff but i do not get the certificate of completion. In order to join aibq ( quebec) or cahpi they require that I get the 3500$ course because they need me to get a certificate of completion. I know I can become eventually a full member and even a cmi with internachi with the course I buy at bestinspectors.net. My question is this: I would have love to be a member of aibq/cahpi as well as internachi but with the cost difference, is it worth it? thanks Alexis |

I don't know what other organizations provide in return for their dues and I intentionally try not to look.
InterNACHI offers about $50,000.00 worth of membership benefits: www.nachi.org/benefits.htm , a little more than that in education: www.nachi.org/education.htm and even a little more than that in business success tools: www.nachi.org/success.htm all for $289. It's literally a no-brainer in that any inspector who can't recognize the value of InterNACHI probably doesn't have the brains necessary to recognize defects in a home. I like to say... when you look upon a non-member, you're probably looking at someone too stupid to inspect. I know that sounds mean-spirited, but I don't know of a gentler way of putting it. Certificate is always good. I may know how to fix cars but it doesnt mean a thing without a certificate. Furthermore, InterNACHI brings great value, obviously and is, in my opinion, the best resource on the internet for home inspectors. Carson Dunlop is a great course but it is very ASHI/CAHPI. I am a graduate of the Carson Dunlop certificate and I highly recommend it.
Take into consideration that licensing appears to be spreading through out Canada. In BC only CAHPI, NCP and ASTTBC are recognized therefore membership in InterNACHI is voluntary. In my opinion, you are best off with Carson Dunlop certificate promoting the CAHPI possible future licensing while becoming a member of InterNACHI for the valuable resources. |

Mark is basically correct. With the exception of InterNACHI getting all it's continuing education approved and accredited by various governments, we don't ever want anyone to be forced to join. We prefer to proffer a value proposition that inspectors run to... voluntarily. And they do.
