Default Designations

Hi folks,

I have been told that after joining NACHI I would be able to call myself a Certified Home Inspector (CHI). This is reserved for CAPHI only, is it not?

CAHPI does not use the 'Certified Home Inspector (CHI) mainly because it has become so generic and commonplace that it is virtually meaningless. It is used so generically that it is almost impossible to protect legally. Unfortunately, this 'designation' is offered by several questionable groups and training facilities as well as some truly good ones.

The CAHPI National designation is 'National Certificate Holder' and the CAHPI provincial units have the Registered Home Inspector (RHI) designation.

Silent Wanderer....

InterNACHI is a professional tradeo organization that has members worldwide. If offers members and non-members many things useful in business.

For members, it offers unique opportunities at discounted education and member benefits. For non-members, it offers free marketing information, an unbelievable breadth of knowledge from its inspectors, and free on-line education (with some pay-per-view, as well).

InterNACHI also owns several professional trademarks or certification marks.

At just $289 per year to join, a listing on just two competing pay-to-join inspector search engines costs more. InterNACHI has to most members, and the most benefits, for the least amount of money.

InterNACHI does not have CHI and never did.

It had CMI but gave it away to an outside organization, the Master Inspector Certification Board, when it became clear the members of InterNACHI did not want a 2-tiered association.

The Master Inspector Certification Board, Inc. is a non-profit 501(c)(6), tax-exempt organization dedicated to promoting excellence in the inspection industry. The Board holds the registered Trademark Certified Master Inspector® (CMI), the inspection industry’s top professional designation, and awards it qualifying inspectors who have demonstrated a high level of competency by:
  1. Completing 1,000 fee-paid inspections or hours of inspection-related continuing education (combined) in their lifetime.
  2. Proving they've been in the inspection business for at least 3 years.
  3. Abiding by the industry's toughest Code of Ethics.
  4. Substantially following a Board approved Standards of Practice.
  5. Submitting to a criminal background check.
  6. Applying for Board certification by signing the affidavit in front of a Notary.
The Master Inspector Certification Board, Inc. is not a trade association and the Certified Master Inspector® is not a membership level. Certified Master Inspector® is a professional designation available to all qualifying inspectors who wish to be Board Certified™.

Mission:
By awarding the continuing education/experience-based Certified Master Inspector® professional designation, the Master Inspector Certification Board, Inc. supports the inspection industry's advanced education providers and encourages experienced inspectors to maintain excellence.
