Does a license Guarantee Qualification

For those who think a License is a good thing they need to watch the
Canadian Discovery Channel .
This just a small sample of how a License does not carry any guarantees that the person is qualified .

Of course a license does not guarantee qualification. What does the lack of a license guarantee?

It guarantees the lack of vendors using the legislative process to legitimize and mandate their testing and educational products.

It guarantees that incompetent home inspectors are not flashing a state license as evidence of skills and competence that they do not have.

It guarantees that the consumer, and not the state, has the final word on who should remain in business.

That’s just for starters. While there are no guarantees regarding a license…since even the law, itself, will be amended from legislature to legislature…the guarantees provided by a profession governed through the choices and decisions made directly by the consumer are quite lengthy.

Just because you have a driver’s license does not make you a good driver. Just because you have a license to cut hair does not make you a good hair stylist. On, and on.

Hunting, fishing, etc. etc. etc. Same with home inspection licensing.

Agents, their associations, special interest groups all want licensing for one reason; so inspectors will write soft, basic reports, all by law, and at cheap prices. When this happens, agents can say this to their clients. Then the buyers think that getting inspections is a waste of money. Our reputation is then shot, and agents then will get what they wanted all along; us out of their way.

Gary,

Agree, but do you agree that drivers should be licensed?

Food for thoughts!

A licence offers no guarantee. A university degree offers no guarantee. Should we stop attending university?

G.

Drivers they should be Licensed.
It could also be great if Home Inspectors where properly licensed .
A self appointed secret group is not the way to go.
They have tried to control our Canadin industry for many years and
have not done a good job.

… Roy

Before imposing further government controls on our lives we must demand proof that such an imposition will be an improvement. There must be a benefit from the further limitation of our freedoms by government. Saying it will make things better; believing it will make things better; insisting that it will make things better is not a good enough reason to accept more legislated control from big government.

“do nothing” is an acceptable position in opposition to an unsupported “do something”.

Are they a self-appointed group or are they leaders? The heads of CANNACHI, ACHI seem to be self-appointed , never heard of an election,…also as is INACHI’s head…and quite secretive also!!!

Yes but NICK/NACHI gives a huge return and has done much for this industry.
ACHI is new and has presented many good ideas .
Too new to make a decision on .

OAHI/CAHPI/PHPIC are same group that has been closed door self appointed group for many years and I have no use for their secret Dictatorial methods.

One thing licensing does do is screen out felons, ax murderers, child molesters, etc. from the profession. How damaging would it be to the profession in your state to have a child molesting home inspector molest someones child while he was in the home?

And it weeds out the riff raft, say those with just a 3rd grade education for example, giving more of the market to those that meet basic minimum standards.

Are you sure they do or is that just your thoughts … Roy

Does being a CMI Guarantee Qualification**?**

So perhaps drivers should join an Alliance protected by a Union instead of getting a license; 20 joyrides and you’re in…

Yes… and the answer is Here

Huh?

“While we strive to promote excellence and professionalism in the home inspection industry, the selection of a home inspector is ultimately a decision for the customer, and we do not guaranty or warrant any inspection performed by those inspectors listed on this website

"So perhaps drivers should join an Alliance protected by a Union instead of getting a license; 20 joyrides and you’re in… "

If you can find such an organization I highly recommend that you join it . . . if they will have you.

We had our AGM last Jan and elected all of our exectuive. You can see them at http://ab.nachi.org/albertanachi/ That is the election of officers for the International Association of /Certified Home Inspectors incorporated in the Province of Alberta for all of Canada.
Perhaps you “never heard of an election” because you have never qualified to be a member as membership is required to vote in any organizations elections.

Even if you have licencing there are people that will still pass themselves off as having a licence.
A case in point is the exec of some Ontario Associations saying they are licenced to licence HI’s when no one has the governments authority to licence Ontario HI’s.
