Default Four campbell river area home inspectors among first to be licensed

CAMPBELL RIVER — Four Campbell River area home inspectors — all members of the Canadian Association of Home and Property Inspectors of British Columbia, CAHPI(BC) — are among the first home inspectors in Canada to be granted home inspection licenses.

“British Columbia is the first province in Canada where home inspectors must have a license to practice,” said CAHPI(BC) President Owen Dickie. “We are a recognized profession that has a significant role in the decisions and lives of BC consumers.”

The Campbell River home inspectors who have achieved their provincial licenses are Mark Nicholet of Apple Home Inspections; Stephen Panting of Campbell River House and Hearth Inspections; and Charles Van Schilt of Van Schilt Consulting. As well, Pat Manery of Pacific Property Inspections in Heriot Bay on Quadra Island achieved a provincial license.

“The global economic crisis has made us all aware of what happens when regulation is inadequate, and enforcement is weak,” Dickie said. “That’s why the licensing of BC home inspectors and the emergence of the BC home inspection industry as a licensed and regulated profession under the Business Practices and Consumer Protection Authority is so important. The province has sent a message to consumers that they are important, that they matter, and that they can have confidence in their licensed home inspector when making the biggest purchasing decision of their lives.”

CAHPI(BC) is the largest home inspection organization in British Columbia, with 250 members working in 178 BC communities and operating under the highest standards in Canada.

“Buying a house is the biggest investment people will ever make,” said Dickie. “If consumers use a home inspector to help them make an informed purchasing decision, that inspector must be trained, qualified, and accountable. That’s what CAHPI’s own Registered Home Inspector, or RHI, designation is about, and it’s a mark of home inspection distinction that’s been made more powerful with the implementation of provincial licensing in BC. The RHI designation is the standard to look for when seeking the services of a home inspector, ensuring that the licensed inspector is the highest-trained and best-tested inspector available.”

It would be interesting to find out how many InterNACHI inspectors are licensed in BC now. It would be a statistic that we could remind the BPCPA about.

That's easy - none.

The only ones who belong to INACHI who are licensed also have (like you) a membership with CAHPI, ASTTBC or a National Certificate.

If all you have is your INACHI certificate you are out of luck.

I hope Alberta fares better than BC did.
