The Technical Standards & Safety Authority (TSSA) has a mandate to improve safety for Ontario citizens in the fuels and other regulated sectors. TSSA is officially designated by Ontario's Ministry of Government Services to administer and enforce the Technical Standards and Safety Act, 2000, which governs fuels safety in Ontario. As part of our safety mandate and continuous improvement program, effective March 1, 2007, the TSSA will be adopting the Ontario Installation Code for Oil-Burning Equipment, 1st Edition/2006 under Director's Order FS-093-06.

The Ontario Installation Code for Oil-Burning Equipment incorporates the CSA B139 Codes, and provides additional requirements that go beyond the scope of the national code. The amendments in the Ontario code were developed by TSSA in consultation with industry stakeholders; reflect practical implementation issues; and are based on equivalent safety to the national codes.

To obtain a copy of the Ontario Installation Code for Oil-Burning Equipment, please contact the CSA. Order inquiries should be directed to CSA at 1-800-463-6727, or shop online at www.ShopCSA.ca.

Also, the Ontario Chapter of the Canadian Oil Heat Association will be conducting training on the Ontario Fuel Oil Code. Inquiries should be directed to COHA at 1-877-331-9668 or www.coha.ca. Registration information can be found under the Ontario Chapter link.
