The medical profession has a long and well established training/accreditation system, so when I hear someone being called doctor in a hospital, there's a pretty good chance the other pros there like nurses and EMT's know the doctor is a doctor!! Not too many cases of doctor fraud in this country or am I missing something? But just about anyone can call themselves a home inspector and get away with it!!!

Brian,
You hit the nail on the head here.
When someone calls me asking about the cost of an inspection, this is my time to sell myself.
I tell them to interview the inspector, What did you do for a living before? What is your background? and some other items to ask. I tell them some inspectors had jobs yesterday where they asked. "Do you want fries with that?"
One lady I said that to, started to laugh,,, when she got herself together she told me that the inspector who showed up introduced himself as a home inspector. SHe looked at thim and asked.."Did you not run that chip truck on the corner?" He responded... "Yes,, but now I am a home inspector!"
I have one in my area who installed telephones,,, now he is a home inspector. He told one client they needed to spend $27,000 before they moved into the house. He said the wood buring fireplace had such a defective masonry chimney that was causing carbon monoxide to back up down the chimney into the fireplace into the house and it was a wonder someone had not died yet! It needed $6,000 to $7,000 repairs now! It was a direct vent gas fireplace!
I have heard more complaints about the one inspector than I have heard about the rest of the entire industry.
