There are many sources of education available and we all must be diligent in the courses we take.

One course, of which I am involved in, and recognized by the Ministry of Education as a post graduate diploma in Home Inspections are the courses at Humber College. They have supported the industry and NACHI meetings in the past. They also have very good reviews by former students.

Worth a look. Humber.ca

You should look at Humber College. They have supported NACHI in the past as well as have a post graduate diploma in Home Inspection recognized by the Department of Education. Many good reviews by the students as well.

Worth looking at Humber.ca

Believe it or not I know a guy who has taken both the Carson Dunlop courses and the Humber College courses. His opinion is that the Carson Dunlop Courses are superior.
He initially took the Humber College courses. Then he was hired by Carson Dunlop and had to take their courses. Now he's out on his own.

What I got was nowhere near what was being offered. I paid in full and for that I had to wait 3 weeks for my material(it was reported to have been stolen for the trainer's truck) and the course that was taught was mainly taught by the students, we were designing the course as we went... The teacher in my opinion, may have had years of experience as an Inspector, but he was unable to convey that to us as students. The experience has left me with a bad taste in my mouth.
I wonder how the instructor got his CMI?
This is yet another example why self regulation has run amuck. Licencing will get rid of the rift raft and only accredited colleges would be the new minimum. The current open season on anything goes is very sad commentary on how the industry is not policing itself.

The crap and corruption is very evident in every association. We all know what is going on and condone it by continual perpetual silence.

Btw has anyone seen the bylaws they are to abide by when they become a CMI? Thats a retorical question we know the answer is NO!

Can you spell licensing?

Q.Does my membership or lack of membership in any inspection trade association affect my chances of approval?

A. No. The Certified Master Inspector® professional designation is available to all inspectors.

Sorry Johnny and Colin. The only thing that licensing will guarantee is that the same bunch of good ole boys who run the O.A.H.I. and C.A.H.P.I. and the N.C.P. will be enshrined by government. Their powers to rule the industry and your business set in stone. How open to other opinions and change do you think they will be?

You want more of the same in spades? - licensing.

George, Colin,

How can you make that arguement when a licencing board is structured differently than that of self regulating associations BOD? These self regulating association are not reportable to anyone, thus the opportunities abound for them to become self serving money grabbing bandits.

Licensing? Your answer to the problem is not a solution.

Any one out there looking for good home inspection training should highly look into INSPECT4U which is affiliated with NACHI. This training is specicific to canadian home inspection training.
