Paul is absolutely correct. My only point is that if you wait till the end of March to apply to either BPCPA or ASTTBC and you application is not processed before March 31 you will not be able to offer services after March 31 until you receive your licence. There is no grace period. So if your living relies on your inspection income you are rather pressed for time to act quickly regardless of who you apply with.

We do not have all the BS and politics of CAHPI and are a solution for just the BC inspector as apposed to some National system that is impersonal and inaccessible. Our Board works hard for the best interests of our organization instead of going out of their way to get in the way of licencing and while at it discredit every other organization out there.

We have monthly meetings where the inspectors get together to network and we provide a seminar - continuing education at each of these meetings. We are professionals doing a good job and trying to improve the industry while we go along.

Now that licencing is here we will switch our attention to the conflicts of interest that exist in Realtor referrals and their interference with the House Inspection process. We will also try to remove the ability for any inspector in BC to provide services to the public without first being mentored as is usually the practise in professional trades but sadly not in ours. Would you rather not start your career knowing you are ready and prepared as opposed to going it on your own and hoping you do not get sued in the first few years??

Our insurance is much cheaper than CAHPI's because it is only for ASTTBC members and as such there are very few lawsuits against our members and our premiums are lower. You can get 1M/incident/aggregate for around $1800.

I will find out what our application fees are and post them. Our yearly certification fees for a CHI(P) are $145/yr plus a $95 advertising levy for BCIPI. A CHI membership is $210 + $95 per year.

If you have further interest please feel free to contact me for info.

Cheers

Anyone have a link for the ASTTBC pre-requisites and step by step process? I HIGHLY respect the fact that ASTTBC is going to focus on the potential for conflict of interest with Realtor referalls. It IS an issue in my neck of the woods

According to the BPCPA blurb, what should be happening after licensing is that realtors are supposed to refer clients to the BPCPA website for a list of licensed home inspectors in their area.

Will that happen? I doubt it.

To a certain extent I agree. BPCPA may not be willing to stand by their statements on their website and by all accounts they have no jurisdiction to enforce anything against the Realtors anyway. At the Board level BCIPI is talking about what we will do next but it will most lilely involve discusions with the Finance Minister's office and the RECBC and possibly taking it to the media again.

To answer Mark the process is pretty easy to join BCIPI right now if you are an existing inspector with at least 150 inspections under your belt. Our app can be found at http://www.asttbc.com/registration/t.../BCIPIapps.pdf and the program we have available to experienced good inspectors can be found at http://www.senwi.ca/equivalencyprogram.pdf

Should you have any questions feel free to contact me

I'm cued up to do mine tomorrow.... aaaand I just figured out 30 minutes ago that there was a printable inspection form attached to the email I received this morning.

I wish I'd have noticed that right away; since I couldn't take my report back to my office (normally you have a week after you perform the inspection to send in the report to your Assessor), I had my "office" all packed up and ready to go to the inspections.

Now I'm unpacking my laptop... my printer... my document binder... lol.

Oh... and I'm sharpening pencils. I've been typing my reports for so long... this should be interesting!
