I conducted a home warranty inspection and discovered no baffles in the attic. The blown fibreglass insulation had been displaced 4-5 feet away from the perimeter of the attic wherever the soffit vents were located. Does any inspector know the code in Ontario. Is a builder mandated to use baffles, and what is the code for how close the insulation must remain around the perimeter of the attic?

Jamie, there are no specific requirements for the clearances of attic insulation, other than in 9.19.1.3 (2) and 9.25.2.5 (5) (a) basically saying that insulation should not block air passage from the soffits or restrict an air flow through the vents. Installing baffles is a common building practice to ensure that this requirement is fulfilled.
