Default Infrared Camera For Inspections

I am looking at getting an IR camera and starting the level 1 training course From Snell to learn how to properly use this camera. I was wondering if anyone is performing their inspections with this type of equipment, if so, would it be possibly to find out what model, where you purchased it and for how much. and how you find the use of the camera This would greatly help me out in my research for this type of equipment as there are so many models on the market, and as of yet I can not find something at a reasonable price made for the inspection industry

As of right now I am getting a lot of talk from sales people who basically don't know a whole lot about what we do

Thank you

Save your money. It will take quite a while to recoup your investment. Besides a vehicle, it's the single most expensive equipment you will purchase. How long have you been doing home inspections?

Thanks for such quick replies. I have been doing inspections how for 3.5 years now, with the last 2 years full time. I took the ahit training course through corrispondance then teamed up with another inspector for the 1st year to learn as much as i could while doing the odd inspection on my own with his help when needed. I am actually looking at these cameras as a way to expand on my business and services

The chances are you're going to have to spend time educating/advertising to the Realtors. Some won't care, some will think it's cool and most will not understand at first. Keep it short and simple and have some fun at the end. I like to speak for about 10 to 15 minutes, answer any questions, then have fun with it by showing them some interesting things it can do. Around here only 4 to 8 Realtors will show up for the lunch presentation but I hope they will talk about the ir camera and some of the things it can do afterward.

When it comes to battery life; today I did a 2100 sq. ft. house with basement and used one bar out of four.

I know a person in my area that charges between $150 for quick scans and average of $300 for a review of specific building issues which includes a report.

I would like to hear from anyone that has taken the Kaplan Class for infrared. I like the price, time of classes, and that you have some time to absorb the information between each class. 8 hours sitting in a class for a week is a lot of information to absorb.

Best class I ever took. Exceptional experience and experienced instructors. Receive Level 1 training AND training geared precisely towards Infrared in residential applications. Technology and training a direct result of Research at the University of Mississippi's National Center for Physical Acoustics which was funded by the U.S. Dept of Agriculture. From my research, this training is surpassed by no one in regards to Infrared Residential Inspections. Hands down worth every penny and then some!

William, that's good to hear.

I talked to Mark from Snell and he was very informative. If you have any questions, I would give him a call at 1-800-636-9820
