This was sent in yesterday by several Canadian Federation of Independent Home Inspector members on the inside of the OAHI / CAPHI fortress. Looks like yet another delay in the National so maybe the rumored infighting and unrest over the programm is coming to a boil after all.
***"Dear Members:
The deadline for registrations has been changed to September 23. This has been done to accommodate registrations for the legal presentation that has been arranged. The presentation is a required element of the National Certification Program. (Task 4 and 5 Legal Liability)
‘The Language of Liability: How does liability attach itself to us though our contracts, or if we work without one? What should our contracts cover? Are we limited to the Standards of Practice? What happens if we go beyond them; are there circumstances where we have an obligation to? What is the Standard of Practice in report writing; how has it evolved? How do we apply the standard and craft our language? This seminar addresses these questions and others. Participants will receive a certificate stating they have covered the legal aspects of the National Occupational Standards to assist them in their quest for National Certification. Seminar leaders are Jim Maxwell, Partner in Macleod Dixon LLP with extensive knowledge of the law as it pertains to home inspectors, and Bruce Riddick, owner of a multi-inspector firm in BC and Chair of the National Accreditation Council.’

It has been suggested that this is just another in a series of delays we can expect to see as the process begins to devolve over conflicts behind the scenes.
