Mould has been around since the earth was created, its still around and will be around until the end of the earth. Mould in my opinion has been over hyped. It has become a revenue source by putting fear into those that least understand it, that is the homeowner. Not all people will exhibit signs of illness from moulds, while others with comprimised immune systems may exhibit illness. The only ones that can tell if mould is a health issue are doctors and even then I believe the evidence and tests may be inconclusive. The medical conditions could be a result from something else in the home such as off gasing of chemicals, pets, plants, fabrics, allergens....

I know someone who is doing two mold inspections next week and getting paid almost $500 for each.
Works for me. |

How can it work for you if you are not the one doing the inspections?

I get numerous calls for them, I spend more time explaining how their going to get ripped off than I do trying to get a contract for a 50,000 sq. ft. inspection. Seriously I do..! |

Mould works for me. I just finished two inspections today (with 4 swab samples) and am now on the specified vendors list of a major roofing company. Seems like mould is growing!!!

I sleep fine at night but when a roofing company is hiring me because they want to put their customers at ease then I'm OK with that. Yes, I have told people they're wasting there money on the test depending on the cirmumstances.

How do you know it's mould in that picture? There are obviously times when mould should and should not be tested. In a situation where a real estate transaction is depending on some samples to be sent to a lab to determine if mould is toxic or not. That in my mind is a service worth paying for. The buyers obviously new what they were doing. By proving to the seller that the mould was toxic with lab results they were able to have a price reduction of $7,000.00. Smart buyers, judging by what I saw that was a wise decision, but what do I no I'm just a generalist taking a mould sample and sending it to a lab for analysis. A homeowner is pissed because they see mould in their attic and decide to take it up with a roofing company because the roof was not fixed properly. We come in do a sample of the mould and send it to a lab for analysis. Is that a disservice for the homeowner or the roofing company? I don't think so. A little old lady calls me and asks me to test the mould in her bathroom? I would send her some great information on mould and how to prevent it and how to deal with it. If I ran over and tested her mould, did 2 or 3 samples, I'd be ripping her off. Every situation is different and it's all about asking the right questions. As far as that roofing company we're meeting with them next week to put together an agreement that will be sent to our lawyers for approval.
