You have been around a while, surely you see man has had an effect on the environment and global warming? If not, great, you are entitled to your opinion, as is Mike. Just because I don't agree with him, he gets upset......

While Mike is pouting, lets see what is new in our fight against climate change:
Earth's Natural Defenses against Climate Change 'Beginning to Fail' Brussels.- The earth's ability to soak up the gases causing global warming is beginning to fail because of rising temperatures, in a long-feared sign of "positive feedback," new research reveals today. A new study has found that climate change itself is weakening one of the principal "sinks" absorbing carbon dioxide: the Southern Ocean around Antarctica. As a result, atmospheric CO2 levels may rise faster and bring about rising temperatures more quickly than previously anticipated. Stabilizing the CO2 level, which must be done to bring the warming under control, is likely to become much more difficult, even if the world community agrees to do it. The news may give added urgency to the meeting in three weeks' time between the G8 group of rich nations and the leading developing countries led by China, at Heiligendamm in Germany, when an attempt will be made to put together the framework of a new world climate treaty to succeed the current Kyoto protocol. If sinks weakened, the airborne fraction would be likely to get bigger. Although supercomputer models of the climate have for some time predicted the weakening of the ocean and terrestrial sinks, no example of it happening has actually been detected - until now. Now the research team has found the vast Southern Ocean, which is the earth's biggest carbon sink, accounting for about 15 per cent of the total absorption potential, has become effectively CO2-saturated. The level of the gas it is absorbing has remained static since 1981 - but in that time the amount emitted has grown by 40 per cent, so it has stopped keeping pace and much more CO2 is left over to trap the sun's heat. The effect - revealed by scrutinizing observations of atmospheric CO2 from 40 stations around the world, is thought to have been caused by an increase in ocean wind speeds. Stormier weather and stronger waves are churning up the sea and bringing natural CO2 stored there closer to the surface - which reduces the ability of the surface to absorb the gas from the air. In recent years it has become clear that the rate at which CO2 was accumulating is itself increasing. (RHC) |

I probably disagree with Jason but I would have to take him off ignore to find out what it is he is selling today. I do not even know why he comes here except to see if he can get a rise out of normal working people. It is never anything about Home Inspections; usually some limp wristed liberal drivel he read somewhere.

I see he has posted a story about the sky faling again. He doesn't appear to be able to interact with someone elses opinions or even discuss facts let alone offer anything constructive to the debate. Is Ethanol really the answer?
..... won't it at least get us unhooked from Middle East oil? Wouldn't that be worth the other costs? Another myth. A University of Minnesota study shows that even turning all of America's corn into ethanol would meet only 12 percent of our gasoline demand. As Taylor told an energy conference last March, "For corn ethanol to completely displace gasoline consumption in this country, we would need to appropriate all cropland in the United States, turn it completely over to corn-ethanol production, and then find 20 percent more land on top of that for cultivation.".......... Well, then, the ethanol champs must be right when they say it will reduce greenhouse gases and reverse global warming. Nope. "Virtually all studies show that the greenhouse gases associated with ethanol are about the same as those associated with conventional gasoline once we examine the entire life cycle of the two fuels," Taylor says.... If a Fifteen year old kid can figure it out - What does that say for the adults?
Global warming is an issue of great importance. Let there be no doubt, the evidence is overwhelming: Earth is warming. The questions that remain are; 1) What is the cause of the global warming? Is it man made atmospheric carbon dioxide? Or is the cause of global warming natural variability? 2) How will politicians spend money while waiting for the answer to question #1? I will demonstrate that the Earth’s warming climate is a result of natural variance and that man made changes in the warming climate in the last 40 years are negligible at best. I will insert pieces of the puzzle from new scientific studies that were not available or were ignored in previous global warming studies. I add a possible piece of the puzzle, nuclear weapons testing in the late 1950’s and early 1960’s, that may have made a small contribution to cooling at that time. After reviewing numerous scientific studies and observing data, it is clear that the theory that “man made increases in atmospheric carbon dioxide are causing global warming” is not likely. I will demonstrate that a negative trend in the El Nino Southern Oscillation (more and stronger La Ninas) from 1945 to 1975 and a postive trend in the ENSO from 1975 to present (more and stronger El Ninos) correlates better with global temperature changes than greenhouse theory. Thus, ENSO is probably the largest contributor to global warming in the past 30 years. The economic and political climate surrounding this issue has made it nearly impossible for scientists and researchers to objectively view the mountain of recent data. While I will use much of the available and updated scientific data, I will also interject common sense, something that is seriously lacking in the debate on this issue. For instance, you might notice my use of the one ten-thousandth figure. Were you aware that the total man made CO2 increase in the atmosphere over the last 150 years is just that, one ten-thousandth of total atmosphere? A Whole Lot More |

Michael, I hope you will continue to post links that inform us of the differing opinions on "global warming". It is only through information that the brain washing of the "gorites" can be over come.
