lol...Henry Kissinger was Sec of State. To the best of my recollection, the position has nothing to do with bombing anyone let alone Cambodia. Henry is not one of my favorite people either. Like most of the Washington elites, on both sides of the political spectrum, he is a pompous, self serving politician. To use him doesn't hurt my position at all, only bolsters it. The NPP is a joke and has been for decades.

Michael,
I agree wholeheartedly. The founding Fathers saw these as Representatives of the citizens of their districts, in a sense they were to "serve" while the rest of us went on with the business of running our country. Once it became a profession, those in office took it upon themselves to become the ruling class and forgot their purpose. Being able to grant oneself a pay raise, perks and privileges not available to the rest of the citizens, making themselves exempt from the laws and ordinances just further proves it is out of control. We ought to have term limits as many States have so we are ensured of a changing of the guard. They stay in office too long in most cases, get ensconsed and become too close to the lobbyists and special interest groups because they get their largest contributions thru them, illegally and legally. These are the same people who gave us the Tax Codes. The lines between the branches of the Government have been blurred and we have Speaker of House going off on her own to foreign countries making policies outside her authority and no one does anything. Sorry, got a little long winded there. The problem as I see it is that we always think it's the other guys Representative that's the problem and fail to make changes by voting for someone else. Incumbents are almost alway re-elected and they do everyting to make sure it stays that way. The desire for institutionalized term limits is a reaction to the frustration many of us feel. It will never happen because those in power will not let it happen. The only hope is for an informed electorate that is willing to throw all the bums out. (in short-we're screwed) I'm sorry but that hope was dashed(at least for me) when Bill Clinton was re-elected in 1996. These people simply will not go away. In the mean time-Think happy thoughts and move forward with your life and business. |

Agree. You have to wonder what alternate universe the constituents of Kennedy, Byrd and others of their ilk (and to be fair; Trent Lott, and other lifetime politicians on both sides of the aisle) live in though, that they keep those people in office for life. I already know the answer....they bring home the bacon, er, I mean pork and that is the core of the problem.

Category: Follow the Money or Ethanol subdidies are PORK Junkman Steve Milloy Responds to Shrill Claims of Ethanol Lobbyists - WASHINGTON, Oct. 17 -- Speaking to the Cellulosic Ethanol Summit taking place in Washington DC, Renewable Fuels Association president Bob Dinneen issued a statement which may be read here: Rather than addressing issues such as rising processed food prices due to grain price increases, rising meat prices due to grain price hikes, water pollution caused by increased pesticide and fertilizer use, soil erosion and taxpayer concerns about rising subsidies, Mr. Dinneen chose to attack the "nattering nabobs of negativity" who voice legitimate concerns about his industry's agenda. Steve Milloy, publisher of JunkScience.com, remarked that, "We acknowledge that stupid subsidies exist, they are pork and pork is part of politics. We understand that even if we don't like it. Ethanol advocates declare in the most sanctimonious manner imaginable that ethanol isn't pork, that it is, in fact, the morally, socially, economically, environmentally-sound fuel of the future. They verge on hysteria when they tell you about the so-called Brazilian miracle, which actually boils down to fueling cheap, tiny cars in 2 Brazilian cities. They become apoplectic over the carbon imprint of gasoline, conveniently forgetting how much fossil fuel is needed to produce their miracle fuel. They sold ethanol to the public not as pork, but as the fuel that will transform industrial economies and make the world a better place. Now, Bob Dinneen of the Renewable Fuels Association is on the verge of a hissy fit demanding governmental protection and financial assistance to protect his lobby from an 'insidious campaign' by his critics. Dinneen doesn't understand that when you change the image of a product from pork to a marketable item, the marketplace decides what to do with it. He needs to calm down, stop the rent-seeking and convince Wall Street that ethanol isn't an organic black hole. (JunkScience.com) |

BE NOT AFRAID Global Warming Delusions The popular imagination has been captured by beliefs that have little scientific basis. BY DANIEL B. BOTKIN Sunday, October 21, 2007 12:01 a.m. EDT Global warming doesn't matter except to the extent that it will affect life--ours and that of all living things on Earth. And contrary to the latest news, the evidence that global warming will have serious effects on life is thin. Most evidence suggests the contrary. Last edited by mlarson; 10/21/07 at 5:17 PM.. Michael, I was just wondering, isn't it true that no named hurricanes ( or possibly ANY hurricanes) have hit the United States this year to date? I thought that this was going to be a record year for storms lashing the continental U.S. What happened to all those mega-storms that were to be created by man made global warming?
I have been cruising around the Carribean for the last week and haven't seen any hurricanes yet. Could uncle Al be mistaken? </IMG> |
