Interior Declares Polar Bears ‘Threatened’ by Global Warming
Backdoor Attempt at Cap-and Trade Legislation

Washington, D.C., May 14, 2008—Today the US Department of the Interior took the controversial step of listing the polar bear as “threatened” under the Endangered Species Act, despite lack of a sound scientific basis and potentially enormous consequences for the U.S. economy. Listing the polar bear has long been a goal of global warming activists who claim that a warmer world will shrink the bears’ habitat.

What is your life like if you feel the need to dress in a polar bear costume?

Can you say, trust fund baby?

At least they acknowledged that the polar bear population was increasing not decreasing

There are about 25,000 polar bears in the world, up from 12,000 in the late 1960s, said Kempthorne. Some 15,000 are in Canada. But the latest science, including data from the U.S. Geological Survey, indicates they are likely in danger of extinction within the next 45 years due to receding ice.

So we are making policy on unproven conclusions. I see. ML

Polar bear update: A five fold increase in bear numbers in 30 some years.

Polar Bears: More Journalistic Malpractice [Henry Payne]

Once again, my profession — journalism — failed its fundamental duty to report the facts Wednesday as the Interior Department bowed to political pressure from green groups to declare polar bears an threatened species due to global warming. This, despite the fact that bear populations have increased from 5,000–10,000 in the early 1970s to between 20,000 and 25,000 today (during the very period their habitat was allegedly shrinking). This is in part due to concentrated efforts to impose harvesting controls that have allowed this once-overhunted species to recover.

Indeed, Dr. Mitchell Taylor, a bear biologist with the Canadian government, wrote in 2006: “There is no need to panic. Of the 13 populations of polar bears in Canada, 11 are stable or increasing in number. They are not going extinct, or even appear to be affected at present.”

This data is readily available in the public record, and yet a review of reports from America’s two leading print sources found nary a mention. The Associated Press completely ignored the bear population data and any critics of the decision. As for The New York Times, reporter Felicity Barringer also ignored the data, but at least alluded to it by quoting M. Reed Hopper of the Pacific Legal Foundation (which is suing the Department of the Interior over the decision) at the very end of her article as saying: “Never before has a thriving species been listed nor should it be.

32,000 deniers.

That’s the number of scientists who are outraged by the Kyoto Protocol’s corruption of science

Question: How many scientists does it take to establish that a consensus does not exist on global warming?
The quest to establish that the science is not settled on climate change began before most people had even heard of global warming.

Category: CAFE standards and reality (a.k.a. does anything we do make a difference?)

For those of you convinced that CAFE standards and CO2 reduction mandates like California's AB1493 (26% reduction of tail pipe CO2) provide effective methods to reducing "global warming" See THIS Lecture by:

Dr. John R. Christy is Professor and Director of the Earth System Science Center at the University of Alabama in Huntsville where he began studying global climate issues in 1987.

Spend 45 minutes to learn some climate change realities from a real scientist. ML

Note:Question answer session follows the 45 min. presentation.

California mandates???!!!

When one consideres that over the past 50 years, California population has exploded, why is it not true that smog has increased in the same proportion?

Having lived in southern Calif. since the mid 50's, smog was much worse then, that it is now. Either that, or I have become accustomed to it!!!

Even if we lose the polar bears, we will at least have the two it that picture!

When "those" two trust funders lose/spend all their money, they will have to get real jobs!!! maybe in a zoo, so we can all see what polar bears looked like!! Case closed!!!

With inhertiance taxes as they are, trust funders are the endangered species!!!

Environmentalists Pick Up Where Communists Left Off

For a century, an ambitious, arrogant, unscrupulous knowledge class -- social planners, scientists, intellectuals, experts and their left-wing political allies -- arrogated to themselves the right to rule either in the name of the oppressed working class (communism) or, in its more benign form, by virtue of their superior expertise in achieving the highest social progress by means of state planning (socialism).
Two decades ago, however, socialism and communism died rudely, then were buried forever by the empirical demonstration of the superiority of market capitalism everywhere from Thatcher's England to Deng's China, where just the partial abolition of socialism lifted more people out of poverty more rapidly than ever in human history.
Just as the ash heap of history beckoned, the intellectual left was handed the ultimate salvation: environmentalism. Now the experts will regulate your life not in the name of the proletariat or Fabian socialism but -- even better -- in the name of Earth itself.

The cost of Global Warming Mitigation

$45,000,000,000,000

Now who do you suppose gets to pay for that?

Any bets on whether any of the proposals will actually happen?

Of course the climate is getting warmer, the Glaciers have been receding since the Ice Age, well before man used petroleum. This is nothing more than a scam being run by con artist on the gullable Tree Huggers. I admit that I am contributing to the warming, all of this garbage makes my blood boil!

Like I said before, I believe the governments of the world are using this to get endorsement for Nuclear Energy approved by the Tree Huggers.

Right now, could use a little of that global warming up here!!!

And if the glaciers melt and the ocean rises, I will have fulfilled my life long dream of having water front property!!

The water levels have been rising for a long, long time, way before man started burning anything besides wood, I have seen villages several hundred feet below the surface in the Black Sea. This is nothing more than another natural cycle in the Earth's history, and there is nothing we can do to stop it.

Yes, that is true. However if man made global warming speeds up the process, then I will finally get my water front property, and the tides will carry away that darn house in front of me that is blocking my view!!

Seattle, Wa. King County: They are taking out the fire pits on the beaches and no fires will be permitted at all. Reason???? You guessed it global warming!!!!

Seattle, Wa. AKA San Francisco of the north!!

Real whack job enviro. nuts up here.
