You'll love this one from a fish biologist studying salmon population declines on the west coast: After studying British Columbia's Fraser River with no dams/obstructions and the Columbia river with many dams (6-7 or more), they found that the dams had no effect on salmon populations........so about 3 trillion worth of Columbia River dams/power generation was safe!!!! Great news!!! The problem: declining populations of species that salmon feed on due to nutrient flow changes in that food chain from global warming!!!! |

According to todays PI news report, alki beach fire rings will be reduced to only 3, with a further study as to elimating them altogether. Mayor Greg, eco freek, will see that that happens.
The ironic part of this, is the cars crusing up and down ALKI cause more "global warming" emissions than the beach fires. King and Snohomish counties do not now allow the burning of yard wastes which is a real handycap for those with acerage. Not sure if passed, but there was talk of banning home fire pits as well in these two counties. Make no mistake about it: All of King county, is owned and operated by the whack jobs in the city of Seattle. (Mayor Greg, county executive Ronny, & Frankie (pork) Chop. This is also been proposed down in the Ocean Beach area, but so far the last I knew, locals have shot it down.

On the mainland: used for cooking hot dogs and marshmellows.
Hawaii: used for roasting a pig. At the beach:used to keep warm while downing a rack of beer, and picking up the babes. One of the oldest, nonmechanical, heating systems known to man.

Stephen
Seattle Times, today. Seattle parks department REDUCED the amount of fire pits for this year, with a phase out and out right ban of fires next year. Reason????? The carbon emissions caused by the fires contributing to global warming!! The above statements from the Seattle Parks Department. Case Closed!!!! There still is Ocean Park, and may be worth the drive down there to enjoy a outdoor fire on the beach, and do my part for global warming. Maybe I'll apply for a carbon off set so I won't feel as guilty. OK, now you all can get back to your book "Earth In The Balance" Me, I'm putting a fire in the fireplace, before they outlaw that!!!

Outlaw firepits, just when you think you've heard it all. Maybe we will just get lucky and the global warming nuts will not drive anywhere or use electricity to broadcast their stupid ideas, freeze to death, and sit in the dark(as if they aren't in the dark now) I have also hoped the PETA people would drop from mal-nutricien and I am still waiting but that's another post isn't it.

Closing Ozone Hole May Have Major Impact On Global Warming A new study led by Columbia University researchers has found that the closing of the ozone hole, which is projected to occur sometime in the second half of the 21st century, may significantly affect climate change in the Southern Hemisphere, and therefore, the global climate You can argue with intelligent people but to argue with a mush head is like trying to grab fog-Thomas Sowell |

Al Gore’s Epic Hypocrisy
By Steven Milloy June 19, 2008 Story A year after the Tennessee Center for Policy Research exposed Gore’s prodigious personal use of electricity at his Nashville mansion (20 times the national average), the Center reported this week that Gore’s personal electricity consumption during the past year actually increased by 10 percent. So while he campaigns for Americans to curtail their electricity use -- you should take cold showers, forego air conditioning, and dry your clothes on a clothesline -- Al Gore is plugging in and turning on more than ever. MORE CRACKS APPEARING IN THE GREAT GOLBAL SWINDLE;
Poll: most Britons doubt cause of climate change
The results have shocked campaigners who hoped that doubts would have been silenced by a report last year by more than 2,500 scientists for the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), which found a 90 per cent chance that humans were the main cause of climate change and warned that drastic action was needed to cut greenhouse gas emissions. The findings come just before the release of the government's long-awaited renewable energy strategy, which aims to cut the UK's greenhouse gas emissions by 20 per cent over the next 12 years. The poll, by Ipsos MORI, found widespread contradictions, with some people saying politicians were not doing enough to tackle the problem, even though they were cynical about government attempts to impose regulations or raise taxes. In a sign of the enormous task ahead for those pushing for drastic cuts to carbon emissions, many people said they did not want to restrict their lifestyles and only a small minority believe they need to make 'significant and radical' changes such as driving and flying less. 'It's disappointing and the government will be really worried,' said Jonathon Porritt, chairman of the government's Sustainable Development Commission. 'They [politicians] need the context in which they're developing new policies to be a lot stronger and more positive. Otherwise the potential for backlash and unpopularity is considerable.' There is growing concern that an economic depression and rising fuel and food prices are denting public interest in environmental issues. Some environmentalists blame the public's doubts on last year's Channel 4 documentary The Great Global Warming Swindle, and on recent books, including one by Lord Lawson, the former Chancellor, that question the consensus on climate change. However Professor Bjorn Lomborg, author of The Skeptical Environmentalist, said politicians and campaigners were to blame for over-simplifying the problem by only publicising evidence to support the case. 'Things that we do know - like humans do cause climate change - are being put in doubt,' said Lomborg. 'If you're saying, "We're not going to tell you the whole truth, but we're going to ask you to pay up a lot of money," people are going to be unsure.' In response to the poll's findings, the Department for the Environment issued a statement: 'The IPCC... concluded the scientific evidence for climate change is clear and it is down to human activities. It is already affecting people's lives - and the impact will be much greater if we don't act now.' Ipsos MORI polled 1,039 adults and found that six out of 10 agreed that 'many scientific experts still question if humans are contributing to climate change', and that four out of 10 'sometimes think climate change might not be as bad as people say'. In both cases, another 20 per cent were not convinced either way. Despite this, three quarters still professed to be concerned about climate change. Those most worried were more likely to have a degree, be in social classes A or B, have a higher income, said Phil Downing, Ipsos MORI's head of environmental research. 'People are broadly concerned, but not entirely convinced,' said Downing. 'Despite many attempts to broaden the environment movement, it doesn't seem to have become fully embedded as a mainstream concern,' he said. More than half of those polled did not have confidence in international or British political leaders to tackle climate change, but only just over a quarter think it's too late to stop it. Two thirds want the government to do more but nearly as many said they were cynical about government policies such as green taxes, which they see as 'stealth' taxes. |
