"SO that's who you consider the left!!!!"

Nice attempt at creating a diversion.
Didn't work.
My statement stands.

"Ask your wife (if you still or ever had one). . . "

Same old, same old. When you left wingers cannot debate you always resort to name calling or attacking your opponent's character. You'll have to do better than the above Brian.

Just remember that this is a small "l" liberal country, no matter who you support. SO there must be daily disappointment for you!! Too bad!!

Small minds cannot see other alternatives other than the past ones. If it weren't for liberals, women still would be unable to vote, company towns would still hold workers servile, why we might still be able to own people. Too bad, George, the world will continue to change and you'll be disappointed regularly.....can't hold it back to the 1950's or before.........Damn Hippies with their ideas of fairness and equality........and Warren Buffet and Bill Gates going to give their money away to poorer folks than us.........spreading the wealth around........What kind of example is that???

With regard to the recent CMA claims of 21,000 deaths Canadian deaths this year from air pollution. Enjoy. ML

Air pollution deaths wildly exaggerated

.............The CMA's predictions about health effects aren't presented in the context of population growth, nor are the projected health costs cast in proportion to economic growth. Consequently, it is entirely possible that the health effects and costs, if any, could actually decline in real terms relative to population and economic growth.

The most problematic aspect of the CMA's research is the assumption that air pollution kills. But hundreds of studies on the health effects of air pollution offer mixed results. Even multiple studies of the same city have returned inconsistent findings. The uncertainty is magnified by the data "mining" employed in computer modeling. That is, only studies that conform to the CMA's a priori conclusions have been fed into the software. Consequently, the outcome is pre-ordained.

For all the publicity generated by the CMA report, it is curious that the association offers no policy recommendations. Thus, we are left to wonder about the association's motivation in undertaking this quasi-research. Environmental alarmists undoubtedly will seize on the results as proof of the need for more stringent regulation. But a slew of stricter requirements already are in the works. Whatever its intended purpose, the CMA report should be treated with the deference it deserves, i. e., none. As a product of ill-conceived methodology and faulty assumptions, the findings hold no value for policy makers or the public.

Michael:

Any thing from the Financial Post, I would question their intent. It was begun and owned until recently by former-Canadian-citizen-now-British-citizen-wannabe-Canadian-citizen-again Lord Black of Crossharbour. He became British soley so he could become a "LORD"!! .........So your courts found it fit to put Lord Black behind bars for bilking shareholders out of millions (it's all about the money, ain't it, even when you already have millions and millions) .....aren't lords respected people??? The vast majority of Canadians cheered when he was put in prison for about 6 years.......You folks can have him!!!

Between he and the quoted ultra right wing Fraser Institute, I don't know who protests more about taxes, even when they may go to such things as better roads, hospitals, etc. Welfare and any public funds that went even to keep the chidren of deceased parents would be on the table for criticism!!

The idea of a compassionate society is just not in their vocabulary.....Small minds cannot grasp great ideas!!

Or to repeat the Lorenz quote a little differently: "I have have been looking for the missing link between higher apes and truly human beings, it is they!!"

So, Michael, the mixed results of air pollution and realted deaths must mean that air pollution doesn't kill people and is OK. When ER rooms have more admissions and deaths go up during smog events......this all just a smoke screen to get money for some underhanded cause....please find the conspiracy and enlighten us!!

Oh! and please tell me the # of deaths estimated from radon exposure by US orgs like CDC are way off base and please tell the American people the CDC is a farce!

Underground Polar Cities: Our Last Defence Against Global Warming?

Whether you believe in global warming or not, the world is changing. The areas around the equator are getting hotter, so much so that scientists believe within the next 5 to 8 years equatorial countries will be practically inhabitable by humans. On the other hand, rising temperatures are expected to make usually freezing environments quite a pleasant place to live, predicting a huge migration to more northerly regions.

Brian, want to place a be on this one?

Michael, I was trained as a scientist and have become a bit of a sceptic (you know, almost all atheist and a little bit agnostic!!). There is some crap floating around out there and I don't have time to find it as you do. I mostly just respond to what I see here, the bit I see from TV documentaries/science programs and hear from former colleagues (I used to work at the federal Canadian Wildlife Service but then changed from wildlife conservation to energy conservation).

In my younger days (1970's), I walked in the early morning woods in the Maritimes with one of its best ornithologists (now a natural history museum curator) the day after spraying pesticides for the spruce budworm. For 2 weeks, simply by knowing each bird's songs and calls, he'd been doing daily bird counts to establish a baseline population . The morning I was with him in the woods it was virtually quiet yet the woodland owners (a large multinational that my father worked for) claimed there was virtually no collateral damage* from the spraying. He estimated 80% small bird death!!!

So when large corps with profits and huge, inflated executive salaries/bonuses are involved, the public good is only taken care of by the public!!! How many crooked corporate execs you guys got in jail now...... how many more to go from the dot.com days.... and then ....how many from the current mortgage crises??? With large amounts of money, trust virtually no one!!

Funny stat came out today (Is it true...I don't know but it was in the press):

Contributions to Obama from servicepersons stationed overseas were running about 600% higher than those to McCain!!! can you confirm this?

*Where have we heard that before (How many civilian deaths in Iraq? 30,000, 50,000, 100,000+......I have heard the last # too many times now to dismiss it!)

Your liberal superiority complex is astounding but, sadly, typical. Do you ever actually read the drivel that you post here? What happens next; another bigoted racist diatribe like the last one?

Don't take it so personal. I never said or insinuated anything like this.....simply my own background.

Not taking it personal Brian but "Scientists" should try harder at not coming off as high priests with secret knowledge that the masses cannot understand.

Science's track record on getting it right has a long and ignominious past.

Maybe in your conservative world where the bigots really reside. (it comes with the territory naturally...or don't you understand that??).......but not in mine.

When recounting some of the past posts to my wife...her comment: "I can't imagine anyone calling you a bigot, except maybe a bigot!!" And when recounting the big dinner party we had with the two male couples, she reminded me about one of the gents being black (which I forgot to mention). Can I invite you the next time we may have these fine folks over for a function? I can sit you next to the black gent's mate who's always calling people "Sweetie" and "Dearie" and touching their hands and arms, etc!

George......... George........you still there???

Dictionary definitions of CONSERVATIVE:

(1) disposed to preserve existing conditions, institutions (what may they be?) , etc., or to restore traditional ones, and to limit change.

(2) One who strongly favors retention of the existing order. (And what would that be?)

Some SYNONYMS:

-antiprogressive, conventional, diehard, lethargic, old-fashioned, reactionary, sustentative, traditionalistic, unenterprising

reactionary: Vehemently, often fanatically opposing progress or reform

You're a silly person Brian and I won't hi-jack this thread any longer, fun though it may be. Remind your wife that you are picking up the sheets from the cleaner. And remember, Hitler along with most of the rest of the distasteful bigots and dictators of the last century, was a socialist, just like you.

Enjoy the company.
