We are consultants.

That is not a tradesman.

We are professionals, though if you think of yourself as less ,you may be correct.

Before one can achieve great or exceptional competence they first must be "competent". Whether we like it or not - or whether we belong to an association or not as "home inspectors"; this occupation needs to address the various levels of competence that exist - "one size does not fit all". That is where other specific levels of competency is assessed and measured to help define the professional attributes of those home inspectors willing to increase and validate their level of competency.
LOL

Once more we hear the argument that no one can be professional unless there exists some quantitative method to proclaim them as such.

Home inspection is not a science. It is a combination of science and art.

Write any test you want...and there will be someone who will pass it and not be able to find the garage.

I believe that it's all about mind set and that one acts according to how you perceive yourself.
I'm glad that 87% consider themselves PROFESSIONAL.
To be professional means to be responsible.
It also means that we will work to improve the profession, our knowledge and competence.

Would the people who gave me a grey square as well as a red square for my comments in this thread let me know who they are and tell me what their problem is?

I can't stand cowards so whoever has the problem, tell me like a professional instead of giving me negative feedback without posting your name.

Thanks.

Good luck to your request, Tyler!! There are a few slugs hanging around these boards. Some of them have mouths that have never risen up out of the gutters they worked in before they became professional home inspectors.......they most likely will disappear in the near future...definitely don't have the skills to survive as a professional.

I actually was not and am not expecting a response to my request. I made the request just to get a point across.

Someone who lacks the courage to back up what they say, do, or type in the first place is even less likely to have the courage to speak up when someone calls them out on their cowardice.

I definitely won't be losing sleep over this and you're right, people like that don't have the skills to survive as a professional and won't be around long anyway.

Thank you to the member who explained to me what the grey box means. I have used message boards like this a lot but never with a feedback system so now I've learned something new.

Back on topic: Vern made an excellent comment that sums up the original question quite effectively:
