*We do have the NCP (National Certification Program) that is generally supported by our national housing agency, Canada Housing and Mortgage Corporation.*

Brian M,

Correction: It is Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC); Mortgage comes before Housing thus why they support the NCP; revenue from mortgage is a big part of it's raison d'être...

The best indicator of home inspector competence that I know of in Canada is http://www.certifiedmasterinspector....trademark.html

SPIN!! SPIN!! SPIN!!

The Doctor is in!!

Another on-line certification with no one actually testing the competency of the "certified" inspector.........How will the public react when they learn how the designation is awarded versus the NCP program??

I believe you know who they'll choose! So far, this association has thrown up a big smoke screen by the use of the Internet. When figured out by/or exposed to the public here, they usually run the other way!!

There is nothing more phony in our profession...nothing more deceitful and treachorous...than the inspector (or group of inspectors) with personal agendas who disguise their own ambitions as being those of "the public".

Every additional word, written or spoken...attached to the false premise that somehow there is a consumer advocacy encouraging their actions...becomes lies the moment they are published or spoken.

In the entire United States of America, there has been only one group made up of consumers who have spoken, as consumers, on the issue of home inspection legislation....and it was to oppose it.

Brian,

With regards to your "another online certification" comment about CMI:

1. You cannot apply for CMI online.

2. You are not awarded the professional designation online.

3. You cannot perform the inspections required for www.certifiedmasterinspector.org online. You have to be in actual homes, not virtual homes.

4. The vast majority of the education acquired by CMIs was acquired in actual classrooms, not virtual classrooms, and most of those courses included classroom exams.

It is interesting to note that the average CMI has over twice the 1,000 inspections/CE hours required (some have over 14,000 inspections under their belt, and some have clocked over 2,000 hours of inspection education)... and of course these numbers are increasing every day, for each CMI, with every inspection they perform and every course they take.

Again, there is no certification that provides a more accurate indication of competence than www.certifiedmasterinspector.org

It is the best of the best.

Like I said.... it is the best of the best, reserved for the few at the top.

Less than 2% of all home inspectors qualify.

Just did a count of CMI inspectors in Canada Ontario 23 BC 2 New Brunswick 2 All other provinces 0 (zero) Those are not numbers to brag about, in my humble opinion.
You have it backwards. The fewer CMIs, the more they get to brag.

"Well Mrs. Smith, I charge about $100 more than the average inspector as I am one of only 23 Certified Master Inspectors in all of Ontario"

CMI works.

It's a hammer, you have to swing it.

Many of your fellow Canadian inspectors have explained on this message board how CMI has helped them command higher fees.

It works.
