A reminder...
As of midnight tonight in Ontario it will mandatory to install smoke detectors on every level of the residence, and must also be installed in any bedroom where a person sleeps with the door closed. Detectors that are more than 10 years old will also have to be replaced. An estimated 15 per cent of Ontario homes do not currently have smoke detectors. The new regulation applies to both rental units and homes that are occupied by their owners. Homeowners, landlords or tenants who are caught violating the rule could receive tickets of $235 or a fine of up to $25,000. The Fire Marshal's office said municipal fire departments across Ontario have been informed of the amended regulation and will be enforcing it when it takes effect.
