Good thread Roy. I'd love to start putting together a course on unusual things an inspector might only come upon once or twice in his/her career.

Thanks Nick I have enjoyed it big time.
Unfortunately it has come to an end.

I have given up posting.

I think Roy has a great idea with this thread.

I hope Nick can add a special section to the message board for unusual items inspectors find.

Roy.
We are all in favor of the MB being a respectful place.

Lets keep this thread going.
Nicks you found the man to help you with that project.
" I'd love to start putting together a course on unusual things an inspector might only come upon once or twice in his/her career. "
No one here better suited for that course than Mr. Cooke.
Got my vote.
Anyone second that vote?

Fireplace within a Garage....

checked with an Architect and Engineer...
they could not find a reason why not... or would preclude installation.....
their question was WHY?

Talking about Asbestos , This is an old Boiler You can be sure this is asbestos .
This is old Plaster with Vermiculite in it .
If you have seen old plaster with Hair in it they used Horse hair to help hold the plaster together and the hair they used arsenic to remove the hair fro the hide so be careful .

Here's one I found and how it was dealt with by the tenants...

It had a high asbestos content and a failed oil tank was found under the building as well. Whole thing cost around $80,000 to clean up!

Do you have a sump pump and are you on town water .
If you have a power failure a great reliable back up is available at the local Box store .
Our's worked well for us yesterday when a person broke the Hydro pole .

Do you remember when pop came in a glass bottle and we used a straw.
Well I got this one in 1972 and it came with its own straws .

The summer that followed Canada's 1998 ice storm was my first introduction to auxiliary public water sump exhaust system.

I was estimating a dry-well and evaluating a below grade 4" baffle run off evacuation system for the roofs many down spouts.

An additional system of the same quality back then cost upwards of three thousand dollars after the plumbers were factored in.

Great to see it marketed and at an affordable price.
The do it yourself kit is a logical conclusion.

Your the KING ROY!! Great thread.
