It is a part of it. And that is exactly why IAC2 requires knowledge of both. And that is why our course covers both www.nachi.org/radoncourse.htm. And that is exactly why the International Standards of Practice for Inspecting Radon Mitigation Systems requires a label recommending a radon test every 2 years: See http://www.nachi.org/comsop.htm#18 18.7.15.

Sell the class and let the students create a market. Cha-chinggggggg!
Good theory, except for the fact that we don't "sell the class." The SOP, the reporting language, the course, the quizzes, the final exam, the grading, the certificate of completion, the IAC2 membership, the logo usage, the membership certificate, and the listing ... are all free.

I suspect we'll see Jim jump the shark with his next post.

So Jim, would you say that a Home Inspection Association that wastes its time creating a Radon Mitigation System Inspection Checklist is a stupid association?

Think so?

You are a liar....and I can prove it. Can anyone else see where he lied?

Think "non-member".....then you will understand how an unsuspecting newbie can be lured into membership (which is not free) to take a course that provides him with...well, the same number of radon mitigation inspections that any reader of this post has conducted. Zero.

I have preserved your lie, above.

One of our newer St.Louis members must think it will work. He's been advertising this before the course was even released.

Radon inspections

Radon is an oderless, colorless, radioactive gas that is a Class A carcinigen. Radon is the leading cause of lung cancer of non-smokers, and if you are a smoker your risks of contracting lung cancer are greatly increased if you are exposed to dangerous levels of radon. I am certified by the (NACHI), National Association of Certified Home Inspectors.

Christopher, you are confusing a Radon test with a Radon mitigation system inspection.

So you're saying Nachi has two separate certifications? Just asking? I never looked into it because in Illinois we have licensing.

Section 422.40 Categories of Licenses

a) The following types of licenses are issued by the Agency to individuals:

1) Radon Measurement Professional license;

2) Radon Measurement Technician license;

3) Radon Mitigation Professional license; and

4) Radon Mitigation Technician license.

b) The Agency also issues licenses to persons performing radon-related laboratory analysis.

I still don't see the lie Jim. The SOP, the reporting language, the course, the quizzes, the final exam, the grading, the certificate of completion, the IAC2 membership, the logo usage, the membership certificate, and the listing ... are all free. What isn't free to whom?

I assume there are many home inspectors who have been asked, while performing a home inspection, to inspect the radon system. I've been asked many times to check out how the radon system has been installed.

Home inspectors are asked questions such as:
  • "What's this big fan in the attic? Is that the bathroom fan?"
  • "We did not elect a radon test, but can you tell me about the radon system that is installed?"
  • "Can you please tell my homebuyer about the vapor barrier installed in the crawlspace and how it relates to radon?"

That's probably why ASHI created a checklist for home inspectors. There was/is a demand for knowledgeable home inspectors, who can report upon systems/components that are beyond the scope of a home inspection, including radon mitigation systems.

Checklist.pdf The ASHI checklist is outdated and should NOT be used by InterNACHI inspectors.

Now there is some fine marketing data. An assumption.

Do you break down your assumptions by geographical location, or do you assume that all inspectors in all regions "might" be asked?

Being able to identify a radon mitigation system and answering the question "What is that?" is significantly different from inspecting one.....would you not agree?

Is this evasion of my question an admission that there is no hard data to show the need for this training/skill?

Thank you sweety pumpkin.
Holding a checklist printout is not "training" or possessing a "skill." It's an essential part.
Holding an SOP printout is not "training" or possessing a "skill" either. It's an essential part.

All our our exams are tough, including our entrance exam... something diploma mill association members would know nothing of.

If your courses TEACH and your tests measure how well the student learned what he was TAUGHT....your failure rates would not so one-sidedly reflect otherwise.

Anyone can write a test that no one can pass. That is not the object of education.

Here's a simple question that doesn't require 3 pages of arguing:

Does NEHA or NRSB recognize the NACHI Radon course?
