Hotel shower door

Is an inward opening shower door permitted

Peter,

No. According to safety code, there must be appropriate clearance space for the shower door to open outward. The shower enclosure must permit unobstructed access to a showering person in case of a fall. An inward-opening shower door can become the obstruction when a person falls in the shower next to it.

However, your shower door can open in both directions, outward-opening and inward-swinging.

You’ll need about 30" of clearance space outside your shower to install a swinging shower door.

Just to clarify I am a Internachi Member just another one of their mistakes.

that door prolly swings both ways… no pun intended …and why would that not be allowed for a shower door?

I do believe it does swing both ways. No pun intended. ;)

Is that a Caitlyn door?

Could be!!

There is no issue with that door, just make sure they are tempered, and not a standard glass DIY made panel, which in your photo appears to be good.

I am aware of the safety concerns in a residence but wanted input for commercial bathrooms.
Thanks

What the fool who built this bathroom should have done

I see this all too often.
Dah!

There were doors swinging both ways and why would that not be allowed for a shower door? But yes there were no such issues with that door you just needed to make sure that it might have been tempering and may be felt like that there were some issues in the door.

Peter …

Read your code book, and you’ll see the answer. Most everybody thats answered you was wrong.
