Sandy Loam insulation?????

Office building in Ione, CA…Built 1860s. Finally find the attic area and thought I was on ground again when I found sandy loam in the attic. Pics to follow tomorrow sometime but it was interesting and I ask the buyer if they had a coffee cup which they handed to me and I scooped out with no problem a cup full of sandy loam. probly 3" thick and in contact with the framing.

Things you find!!!

How do you know it was “Sandy Loam”? Did you have it tested?

I expect it is dry . No big deal .I think a lot better then nothing .
I have done many with Wood shaving to me that is a big deal as shaving will burn big time .

Did I have it tested??? Yea…I compared it to what was just dropped off for my landscaping project and it sure looked like sandy loam to me.

It’s not insulation, left over dust from the dust storms of the 1920’s.
