Nick what absolutely amazes me you ask for input on something you have no intention of ever changing. So why waste peoples time? So you can say we had a discussion about it? Nothing is ever discussed. It is mentioned then you say its presently great and it stays they way you want it. Your just wasting time and peoples effort. Just do what you want its the way it ends up anyways.

Perhaps....but why stop at 5? Why not 6?

Also...can't I work full time at Wal-Mart but have yellowing business cards on my desk for five years? How does your plan assure that was not a part timer doing 3 inspections a year for five years?

I know a contractor who inspects on the side who only does one or two inspections a year, tops, and started doing them in 1995. Could he not be a CMI under your plan?

Totally agree! Nick listens with his hands over his ears.

Will not happen. Has it ever? For this to happen, Nick would have to admit something was not right. I have yet to see that. The way I see it he posts these "questions" just so a few of his worshipers just agree with him and he has the validation in a public forum and then can say..."well we discussed this in the past". When you actually DISCUSS nothing because you come up with something and he just defends the current position and then keeps it the way it is.

HUGE waste of time and INTERNET space.

So are these related?

Contract signed with Florida REALTORs Magazine to run full-page CMI ad.

Anyway, although CMI doesn't have annual dues, the entrance fee is being raised to $1,000.00 soon. FYI.

And just where is McKenna the Executive Director - Master Inspector Certification Board in all this?

He pops in with this response to my post:

The person who does 950 inspections in 3 years and has 50 hours of CE has my respect. I doubt a looser could pull that off (most of the time).

90% go out of business in 3 years.
Then, faster than I can respond to his comment, he goes back and edits to...

Get it while you can.
What the hells that about?

Seems to me he should be actively participating in this discussion, not just playing 'hit & run', or riding Nicks 'coat-tails' like he usually does!

And I want to become a CMI why, again???

Just to fly another useless logo on my website??? Much of my competition far exceeds the CMI 'standard'. The title means nothing around here. My hard work and reputation and word-of-mouth is what gets me work in rural Minnesota.

The less CMI's there are, the better for those who have it.
Please do not apply...

What an a s s!

I just thought it would be appropriate that you, as the Executive Director of CMI/MICB, would participate in the discussion, and provide some meaningful dialog.

Guess you really don't give a damn.

I think we may have just stumbled upon another reason others have no interest of joining your little fraternity.

Don't worry. You won't be receiving my application anytime soon.

The average inspector, these days, is performing under 200 inspections a year. 200 goes into 1,000 how many years?

Russell, why do you keep saying something won't happen after it's happened? It sounds weird.

CMI's requirements were developed after years of discussions with membership. Over the years, the requirements have changed twice.

Perhaps you should research before you criticize. This isn't the first time you've made the goofy claim that something will never happen... after it already happened... in this case, twice.

It's kind of like saying that the U.S. will never elect a black president or that the Berlin wall will never fall.

Anyway, a professional designation has to be both meaningful, yet attainable. If it isn't both, it is useless.

It's true... the less people that become CMI, the better it is for those who already are. Less is more.

Approx 3.3% qualify to be CMI's like it is. Some complain the standards are too high and they should be lowered.

But, don't worry about it. It's not your concern.
