Do we?

Do we have a ‘C.M.I. STANDARDS OF PRACTICE’? If so, where do I find it?
Thanks

No, you can substantially follow any of the ones below. The CMI does have its own COE though.

Agree to abide by the Master Inspector Certification Board’s Code of Ethics, a copy of which is posted at http://www.certifiedmasterinspector.org/cmi/coe.html. The Board’s Code of Ethics meets or exceeds all other inspection trade association’s and government-mandated Code of Ethics. Therefore, abiding by the Master Inspectors Certification Board’s Code of Ethics places the Certified Master Inspector® in compliance with all other existing inspector Codes of Ethics.

Agree to substantially follow any one of the Board-approved Standards of Practice (ASHI, CAHPI, CREIA, FABI, ISHI, InterNACHI, TREC). Any state-mandated Standards of Practice is also approved for Certified Master Inspectors® in that state.

George,

As mentioned on:

http://www.certifiedmasterinspector.org/cmi/coe.html

*a. The Certified Master Inspector® shall abide by this Code of Ethics and substantially follow a Board-approved Standards of Practice (ASHI, CAHPI, CREIA, FABI, ISHI, NACHI, TREC). Any state-mandated Standards of Practice are also approved for Certified Master Inspectors® in that state.

Hope this helps,

The Kansas SOP’s state that I only need to check a “representitive number” of each item, which is one. One outlet per room. One window per room. One switch. One door. No appliances. No storm doors. No storm windows. Not check water pressure.

I go way over my SOP’s here in Kansas, and many others. No matter what, I am going to check all I can in the home I inspect, and inform the client to the best of my ability.
