If anyone wants, they can just send in some post-dated checks to cover the $375. Payments can be dragged out for a year or so. Whatever you need.

Now if you offered no payments up front on the experience requirement along with the pay me money as you can option, you'd really have a super-sale-a-thon going there Nick! LOL

If Obama can win the Nobel, there's not reason you can't defer the CMI experience requirement. You know, just have them sign a paper that says they accept the CMI as a "Call to action".

What if I already paid the $? Can I get it back and then said you lil payments? I am just joking.
People ask if CMI can get them inspections...I will tell you this, in my area I was the first home inspector to become INACHI CMI...now there are like 7. I got it not because what it CAN do, But what happens when other in the area are doing it....then I have to play catch up. So many people say its easy...if its so easy then do it! I pride myself at thinking outside the box and all of these things add up. One guy told me that I have more initials after my name then a Doctor. Its like building blocks....one thing leads to another. What good does something like CMI mean? Look at it this way, its $375 to elevate yourself above 90% of the inspector in the industry. Can you afford NOT TO DO IT.......is really the question. |

Why would an inspector who has the experience required to become a CMI need to make installment payments on a $375 debt?

Believe it or not some of the best inspectors are slow right now. The last thing some Realtors want is an inspector that is actually going to find something wrong with a house. I got a call this week from a contractor saying that a Realtor was pissed off due to something another inspector found. He explained to the Realtor, the the inspector was right and told him what needed to be done to make it right. The Realtor insisted the contractor fix the problem his way (cheaper way). The contractor called me to verify if he fixed the defect the Realtor's way (a patch job), would he get in trouble. I told him your name will be on that job and do not expect the Realtor to fess up if the patch job is discovered. Sad but true. Side Note: A few years ago this contractor had to pay out thousands of dollars for his poor workmanship that was discovered by me. He actually calls me at least once a month and asks me for advice on how to do something correctly. I really do not think he knew he was performing poor workmanship. I get referrals from him all the time. |

Dan, as I stated to you via phone this week, even if you are a CMI, it is slow out there. It seams to me that the more designations that you have, the more agents will not recommend or suggest you to do the inspection; heck, they will even tell the buyer this. Agents just do not want us killing their deals. That is why the agents pushed for licensing in the state of Kansas. It levels the playing field, and will actually kill any marketing that we can do; we will then all be even. The more experienced inspectors will have to do the inspections, write the reports, go by the same SOP as the newbies. It will then not matter what experience, designations, education, or association membership you have. It will be a matter of price, and who performs the inspections the quickest, who will get the business. Or, the contractors, repairmen, roofers, will be doing them for free, and not under any state rules, regulations, laws, and doing the repairs without state licenses.
I just want to know where that hair was growing at. There is none on your head. Last edited by gfarnsworth; 10/18/09 at 8:10 PM.. |

You almost have it right Gary, but not quite. CMI is the cure to licensing which makes all inspectors equally licensed. Everywhere licensing is adopted, the newbies wave the very same state issued, minimum standard credential (license) as the veterans. But they can't be CMIs.
CMI is mostly a marketing tool that allows veterans the ability to distinguish themselves from the inspector who got licensed this morning. Nick Gromicko, Certified Master Inspector Find a Home Inspector "Just as iron sharpens iron, one man sharpens another." Proverbs 27:17 |

If you ever get to Missouri, I will take you on a mold tour. If you can survive the first few hours without a resperator or a mask, I will buy you a steak dinner.
