Hey Brian!

If it works for ya... groovy. Too much of the "you shouldn't do this or that cuz *I* do or don't" here anyway. If you want to give away a Porsche with every inspection... awesome.

I see your *marketing* idea and it *does* seem attractive to someone shopping for a Home Inspection.

That being said..

How does that work out for you *IF* the roof needs repair to get a *CERT*? Just curious... as there are things with B&P 7197. (a) & NACHI.

I used to do 'Certs as well, but most roofs need *something* and I can't do repairs for the cert...nor offer the repairs via a sub. AFAIK

John...

I didn't quote as you might wish to edit...

Anyway, Brian didn't say what his prices were... only that he was trying to stir up business.... I've heard others say they include the FHA HQS forms, free warranties, realtor referrals and so on. If others were able to type up a form that took about 10 minutes (most in CA can't) certifying roof, they probably would. Would *I* do this... probably not. Can I? Yep. If I wanted to give away my work boots with every inspection and my profitability was sustained... why not?

As far as being ashamed, I can only say that negative comments in a public area directed towards another member, do no better than your perception of *low balling*.

Quite productive your comments on this board. It is ashamed to know you are an InterNACHI affiliate. We strive to make our industry a profession not a welfare club. You keep the low prices and give away your services to make a buck. We will continue improving the industry and making the home inspection industry a career.

What a waste of time. But I needed to drive a screw in your head; maybe it will release some of the worms that are affecting you neurons. Cheers!!

Its all good man...you have the right to say what you want...Come out here to CA some time and you will get a real taste of what its is like to be a HI.... I live in the worst realestate areas in the Nation! Come out here and see what its like and then you will see you have to some time think out side of the box to make this HI thing work....also who said any thing about low balling???? How do you know what I charge for a HI?? Do you know? No you do not....Have a great DAY!

I am ok Brian. I will modify the form and share it with you. One man, One fight, One country. I'm heading to my other office in Gainesville, Fl when I get back to the home office I will talk to you. In the mean time relax and have a Johnny Walker Black alone with a Davidoff cigar on me. Cheers! Be positive and always find away to stay ahead of the competition (not low balling). Offer services that will bring extra money not less. Like: Mold Screening while doing the home inspection at no charge and if they need testing then go for the big $$$.

Can I ask this question? What exactly would be a low-ball quote for an inspection? Typical house, 2,000 to 3,000 sq. ft.?

I have been charging $300 up to 3,000 sq. ft. $350 up to 4,000, and $400 over that. Anybody that pays cash gets an instant discount.

Is that low-balling? Because I'm not doing a whole lot of inspections right now. I do know that the market in my area is starting to trickle back a bit. But I think that everyone is kind of waiting until after the elections next month. JMO.

Another question. Is there any ongoing education for mobile homes? I've looked, but can't find any.

Thanks.

In So Cal your prices are on the low end and would be considered low ballin.

Michael,

You're pricing is a tad lower than mine but pricing will always be affected by geographic location. Low-Balling to me would be in the 200 dollar range. If you feel comfortable with your pricing and your bookings are quite slow, stay where you are. I never lower my pricing period. When I start getting busy, I raise my pricing.

Regarding Mobile Home material, have you seen this yet?

Lowering the prices really send a bad signal and ruin the industry. If business is so slow that you can not make a living than is time to move on and get another job. Your HI business can suplement your income.
