My confusion comes from your original post that seems to imply that a home inspector with a IR thermometer and a moisture meter is somehow providing a lesser service to his client and is wrong to advertise or otherwise promote his service.

How is it wrong, in your opinion?
Technically it's not wrong, it's misleading to the consumers.

It's technically wrong if a guy with no camera is advertising he uses one, no?

I meant technically as in being able to use an IR thermometer and moisture meter to determine lack of insulation or moisture (it's not wrong, just a different method than using an IR camera)

No need to spin James.

Your position is the one I initially took, until I was made to understand that the issue is not the use of the IR thermometer.....but the advertising of an IR camera that does not exist and using an IR thermometer in its place. This is what he is objecting to.

Those folks that act to advertise in a misleading way, are only hurting their own business and reputation.

I say screw 'em, it will catch up to them sooner or later. When the consumer realizes they were misled and screwed over, then they can call me.

Cool Re: Check your competitors equipment...

You new guys just don't get it. Long before youse guys talked about IR, I did surveys for missing insulation, moisture inside wall cavities, etc. Used a Milwaukee Sawzall and opened that wall up quick - got to the nitty gritty quickly AND cheaply. Plus that the overwhelming sence of power .......

Jim - Remember the old USMC motto - If you can't beat them, kill them .....

John -

What a great idea for a photo to put on our emails when addressing whiny listing agents complaining about how picky my guys were.
