Not me Peter, Will knows for sure.

I am actually going to start a commercial thermogrpahy business and substantially reduce or eliminate home inspections. My left knee is going bad and some day soon will not able to crawl around very much. I have 10 years commercial inspection experience, so I know that it will be easier on my poor knee.

As far as marketing to commercial facility execs is concerned, that is very tough. I have an established account base from years ago to get me going.

Another idea....

If you are using your IR camera to conduct energy surveys or just insulation scans, you might want to consider reaching out to organizations or non-profits that are in the energy conservation business.

One example for me is CCAN (Chesapeake Climate Action Group). They are a non-profit group that is dedicated to fighting global warming by educating consumers about energy conservation. I contacted the communications director and offered a FREE Home Energy Tune-uP with ITI Scan to one of their members. They had a drawing, and I did the survey for the winner.

Since I did that survey, I have received five other leads or referrals from CCAN. I booked four out of the five leads!!

Here is an example:

Quote:
I have been recommended to you by Chesapeake Climate Action Network for an energy audit. I have a large house in Northwest DC for which I could use advice. I would also appreciate referrals for follow up work. I will be here until Jan. 8th and then after Jan 28th.
What are your rates? your availability? and do you provide referrals?

Thank you and Happy New Year. My home phone is XXXXXXXXXX and my cell is XXXXXXXXXX

I booked this inspection yesterday for tomorrow morning at 9:00am. It turned out to be a Premium Home Energy Tune-uP (w/ ITI Energy Survey) and a full Home Inspection. (total = 803.00). Not bad for one inspection

It works!!!

Kevin

To be honest, about 7 of them were former clients and I gave then discounts.

Marketing, you know.

I have been working with Consumer Reports for an article, due to come out in March.

I have been talking up Thermal Imaging with them.

Looks like they will be doing an article on this, which will prominanatly feature NACHI.

Hope this helps;

Will, do you use just the camera for an energy inspection, or do you own a blower door and do these types of inspections as official energy audits? The ones where the eco-big-wigs set the 'standards'.

You will be amazed at the responses I receive from my clients and everyone in the room. They see the "glowing" hand print on the image and say "wow" that is cool.

Once they see the camera in action, I have them sold! Most people will see the value in using the camera and will not hesitate to purchase the add-on service on the spot. I currently average about 300 inspections a year, which is about 25 inspections a month. I'm averaging about 40% close rate per month. That's an average of 10 people who purchase the Limited General ITI Scan.

25 x 40% = 10 x 99.00 = 990.00

Try it....it works

I like your "Coolness factor" idea, Kevin. I'll give it a shot.

For the past two weeks, I've been doing IR inspections for FREE, simply to impress clients and to gain additional knowledge before I go with full blown fee paid Infrared inspections with professional reports.

I just inserted my infrared info on my website two days ago (early in the AM), and I got a call two hours after I inserted this IR information. He stated that he called me only because he was impressed with the IR services that I offer. I'll be doing my first fee paid inspection tomorrow.

Erol,
There are certifications for raters through RESNET:
http://www.resnet.us/programs/training/directory.aspx

Blower door and duct depressurization equipment is necessary to perform ratings. You do not need to bring this equipment to the class. A 5% discount is available to members of RESNET at www.energyconservatory.com. A base blower door is approx. $2500 Duct Depressurization equipment Approx. $1800 You will also want Tectite Software and consumables such as booties and Duct Mask $130 for 6 rolls
