I understand some of the frustration that some feel, Although some members have said things that I thought was out of line and bashed other members, non-members also this is still a good place to acquire some very good information with some knowledgeable people. Heck I got a red square and cussed at because I asked a about how to get some ASTM information. I still think that INACHI is the best. I learned a while back Don't sweat the petty stuff. I've been on the phone with Roy Cooke for the past 20 minutes discussing this very matter. It's tough. We want an unmoderated message board but as of late, have been pushed to the point where we have to scan, find, and delete certain posts (references to bizarre sex acts, unfounded accusations of criminal activity, personal threats, foul language, etc).

We're working hard to protect free speech while keeping certain non-members (and a few members) from getting too distasteful.

Tough line to walk.

Nick, with all due respect. I don't see it as being a tough line at all. I think there's a problem with the perceptions of what free speech truly is. Free speech and proper decorum and behavior are not necessarily mutually exclusive concepts. One can present whatever views one has without being disrespectful, without being dishonest, without being verbally abusive, without name calling, without profanity, and without being childish.

I would think that at the very least, those members who have been asked to serve on various committees (such as ESOP) would be asked to behave themselves properly.

Remember, it only takes one bad apple to spoil the barrel.

Agreed, also if we collected full contact info when people register it would at least allow us to police some of the BS that goes on on here with false registrants.

Agreed Mark. We now have a staffer working on deleting all the overly descriptive pornographic posts going all the way back to the begining of this message board and don't think removing these posts constitutes an attack on free speech.

Make it easy. You must have a credit card to register. No charge, but the names and address must match the application. If needed, you could take it a step farther and put in the message board rules that must be agreed to when signing up, that any obscene or inappropriate comments will be cause for a $5 charge to the credit card on account. We can all still argue but make it difficult and spendy for those that want to cause trouble.

Who would determine what's obscene?

That can be tricky, but when you have actual names and no aliases, I think people would be more cautious on what they post. I would suppose that the webmaster could send on those that are potentially inappropriate to the ESOP Committee or a Web Committee.

sounds Great but if you look I think most who make filthy foul posts are Members.
I think it is a very small amount who are not members who have potty mouths.
Foul words are not needed or necessary.
And those who use bad words should be warned then dealt with severely.
