Low resolution and smaller screen cameras are less expensive, but as soon as you get one, you want to upgrade.

That's the video mode, and is probably not in IR mode. That's not the IR photo resolution which was never listed. OJ said it was 160x120 resolution which sounds closer to reality.

I looked at the link you provided. None of those pictures were high resolution.

I should rephrase that. None of them are 640x480 and they'd definitely be showing thatoff. It looks like they are all different sizes which tells me they are probably stitched together from multiple images. Otherwise they'd all be the same resolution.

A 640 X 480 IR camera resolution is for lottery winners.

The one we have used on evaluations costs 10k. Like I said it's a nice little camera but the regular photos are grainy and the camera has no flash that I'm aware of.

Ok so all those incredibly detailed photos and claims of super high res are lies.

Not very reputable and unworthy of consideration then.

The IR images look great, it's the comparison photos that look bad. I've thought about taking photos with my digital camera w/flash for the comparison images. But you would think for 10k you would not have to do that.

The things you have pointed out here is why I would recommend sticking with the mainstream camera manufacturers. Yes you can save yourself some money but in the long run it will cost you in time money. The biggest thing you want to ask yourself is what are you wanting to get out of your camera. If it is a major portion of your business then in the long run spending a little extra to get a camera with options that can improve your on-site and post analysis capabilities will make you money. If it is an adder and you intend for it to alwyas be that then don't spend as much. Regardless of whatever slick marketing or sales ploys someone tries to use you can't get around the physics of this. I have been a thermographer for going on 9 years now. Mostly what I do is industrial so my standards are based on the greatest spot size ratio possible. Having a camera that is easy to use in the beginning as well as having options that you can improve your scan time and help you educate your customer will help your business in the long run. I not only scan but sell cameras mainly because there were a number of individuals who purchased cameras because of a Slick Whilly Salesman who glossed over the deficiencies in their cameras and now the camera sits on the shelf or they have gone to a different camera.
