Thanks Kevin. I've been trying to get a feel for the Flukes but can never tell if the image is straight or modified. I can tell with a FLIR image.

Not sure what you mean by straight or modified.

Those have been through the Fluke Smartview software to make them PiP (I like to scan in full IR) and generally to change the palette (I like to scan in grayscale and usually present in Ironbow.) The software also has an optimize feature that basically is an automatic range optimizer that I will sometimes use. Then exported to the JPEG format.

But they are all real photos from actual inspections under normal inspection conditions.

All in all, I am very happy with the TiR1 for building inspection use.

Kevin,

That is exactly to the tee as to how I do it as well. Always full IR grayscale while working, unless I want to show the customer something. Then I put it into Red/Blue. I will present in Ironbow or Red/Blue, and in PiP so they can get a better idea of where the image was taken.

SmartView is amazing.

...meaning not "tweaked" with the software. Basic iron or grayscale pallette. Trying to get a feel for the resolution when it comes straight from the camera.

Not sure if I optimized any of those or not. But you adjust the range manually on the camera if you want. I find the the auto range setting works fine for most home inspections in typical conditions.

Of those five the only one that I might have optimized was the first one. I am pretty sure the others were all straight as seen on the camera.

I VERY rarely will mess with range onsite for the typical home inspection related scan. The TiR1 has a really nice onboard screen and is generally more than good for me to tell what I am seeing onsite, and make my call on the problem. If I optimize something in the software it is only for the benefit of the client, to make things standout, particularly as we get into less than optimal temperature differentials.
