How inexpensive is it?

Yeah, I couldn’t find a price either. It looks exactly like the B-Cam SD, and the specs are eerily similar.

So what was the cost of the B-Cam SD?

$2995 msrp

I think it is the same one talked about in this thread.
$2995… but only 80x80 resolution…(poor).

Update…

The FLIR - EXTECH i5 infrared camera goes on sale Monday.
I have not made up my mind about it yet.

Hi John is this the same or different as the 80 x 80 res?
Detector Type Focal plane array (FPA) uncooled microbolometer; 120 X 120 pixels
Just looking for a clarification as far as the resolution.

I think (not sure) this is the 80x80 res camera.

I have not seen that in print yet.

Here is a direct link to EXTECH regarding the i5 camera.

In my opinion, anything less that 120 X 120 is useless.

Just my opinion.

Lets see,

“80 by 80 Pixels for clear images”
80 by 80 gives you clear images?:o

“Large 2.8” color LCD"
I guess you can find a woman that calls a 3" #### large.

“Rugged meter …”
What does “Rugged” mean? It will hold up in your pouch.

“Long Battery Life …”
OK 5 hours is good especially for what this can be used for.

Flir i5 $2995. Listening to the person that bought this wanting to upgrade not long after he buys the i5, priceless.:stuck_out_tongue:

Please tell me they aren’t making a cheaper (as in quality and performance) model.:frowning:

I have seen the ads for this and no where do I see
anything about moisture detection. If you see it,
tell me.

Anyone know what the “spot size ratio” is on this?
I would like to figure what distances this thing can do.

David
have you just begun comparison on this? I’m interested in your opinion, clearly it is cheaper but if it does do what the b cam does could be a waste

Yes.

I have a lot on my plate right now.
I am doing my best to just keep up!
I will post my findings/opinions.

The spec sheet I saw today lists the field of view as 17 degrees x 17 degrees so the spatial and measurement resolution values I calculated would be pretty close: at 10’ you should, theoretically, be able to resolve a .5" target and measure a 1.5" target; at 5’, those values would be half and at 20’ they would be double.

The fixed focus could also be challenging depending on where it is optimized for. I’ve used other fixed focus cameras that work well and some that don’t work worth a darn. Clearly FLIR knows what they are doing so I assume it is the former.

The sensitivity seems good at 100mK @25C but I’d like to see it in action to see how it actually performs.

Clearly NOT a system for use in home inspections, but could work well for electrical in-plant maintenance. I look forward to getting one and putting it through its paces.

Of course, regardless accurate data capture and image interpretation is still crucial to good results.

Thermally yours,

Update: Just got an email from one of the Extech reps informing me that the temp range is 0 to 250 Deg C.

The data in the Professional equipment catalog is inaccurate. They list the “operating” temp range rather than the measurement temp range.

Kevin

That could be a problem for some Home Inspection applications.
However, we should all buy the camera that fits the application (not our wallet) we intend to use it for and be knowledgeable and educated enough to know the difference!

How many IR owners out there even know how to determine the spot size ratio to max distance to target as Mr. Snell addressed?

Get to class before you pull out the wallet.

I spent twice in education than the cost of my camera ( and I still need learning :-))!!

Take it for what it’s worth.
