John would probably agree that the slight advantage of going to PRO-LAB is that if you have any kind of problem with them, I can usually intervene on your behalf. I'm not promising I'll be successful, but I pull a little weight there. www.reliablelab.com

Greg McIntosh, Director of our Canadian operations, has developed a wonderful handbook on how to select an infrared camera. It is targeted specifically for Canadians and I would recommend it to you highly. He can send it to you at no charge if you are interested. Greg has been in this business even longer than my 25 years and has a wealth of experience in both camera sales as well as applications. He is a consummate professional and also one of the finest trainers I have ever worked with. We regularly offer courses in Canada in English and French. Jian, greetings from Ottawa.
It looks like you are looking for a specific recommendation on a specific camera and how to buy it in Canada. Buying a camera in Canada is not difficult. Both Fluke and FLIR have direct contacts here and a number of companies carry IR equipment. Depending on who you deal with and what you need, you can find a price pretty close, or sometimes better, than advertised US values. Buying the correct camera, on the other hand, depends directly on you, your business and your future growth plans. Arguably, you are not just shopping for a camera, but a system that involves the camera, the software, the training and product support. The best advice you have received on this forum came from John Snell. I suggest you take it. The short additional time required to figure out what you need to buy and where you can get training to use it will not matter in a couple of months from now. Choose the wrong camera and it surely will matter for a lot longer time. All the best -John |

I have been loking and talking to some reps and the FLIR B-Cam sells for the same price in Canada as in the U.S. $4,995. But for some reason the Fluke TIR is $500.00 more expensive in Canada then the U.S. from the suppliers I contacted around $4,500 in the U.S but $4,995 in Canada, why the difference when FLIR charges the same price? I even asked a Fluke technical rep if the TIR can still operate when plugged in to charge the battery as the battery is built in and you just can't swap batteries like with the B-cam and he said he did not know but next time he had one he would try it, he did not take my number to let me know he just left me at that. So for me the B-cam seems ahead right now.

The really good news? You cannot go wrong with either of these systems or several of the other great choices in today's market. I would, however, URGE you to try before you buy if possible. You may find something like a $500 difference to not be significant. I know that when I shop price is a factor I consider but, in the end, is usually not the most compelling one. Hi Jerry.
There is some competition among suppliers of Fluke products in Canada. I suggest if you don't get a reasonable quote from the folks you are dealing with, you check around. For the Ti25, I was quoted everything from $8000+ to just below $6850. The lowest price I found for a TiR1 in my area was just shy of $6400, with a TiR min price at under $4300. This was several months ago with a slightly different exchange rate, so the quotes wouldn't be valid any more, but the point is that there are options out there. Cheers -John |

Hi,
I was at the Toronto IR class earlier this month. From what I remember, someone mentionned that Flir was set to release a new camera, an upgrade from the BCAM SD? It was recommended to wait a little if you were going to be purchasing one. Anyone from the class remember that? Paul-Marc |
