I took both the commercial and residential courses last fall and found them both beneficial.
Most don't realize that states who accepted ARRA funding need to be 90% compliant with the IRC energy code by 2014

Here in Maine we just adopted the Maine Uniform Building and Energy Code (MUBEC). It incorporates the 2009 IECC, 2009 IRC, 2009 IBC, 2009 IEBC, as well as some ASHRAE Standards and a Radon Standard. I took the training and all the tests and became certified by the state of Maine as a Third Party Inspector. I invested a fairly good chunk of money in marketing and setting up a business to provide this service, as well as home inspections. Now there is a bill in the Maine Legislature to repeal the entire code! A lot of builders are complaining loudly about the extra expense and hassle of following this code. I am quite interested in the new course that NACHI and DOE are setting up to certify Home Energy Survey Providers. I'm trying to offer a wide array of services to see if I can make a living at this. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I am very happy that I joined NACHI; it's proven to be well worth the money!
