Nick, how will they want us to prove how many inspections we have done? I think many of us would like to get a head start on having the proof ready. |

As a professional home inspector ( consultant ) you are paid by a home buyer to assist them in determining if the property they made an offer on is worth buying.
This has to be completely unbiased, with the inspector having no interest in the transaction other than that of the client. The possibility that the company performing a 300.00 service could generate thousands of dollars in additional income is an ethical conflict of interest and could potentially harm the consumer. The number one reason the state regulates any profession is TO PROTECT THE CONSUMER. |

Mr. Meeker,
As a full certified member of NACHI, you have agreed to be bound by the Code of Ethics. See the following: "The InterNACHI member shall not perform or offer to perform, for an additional fee, any repairs or repair-associated services to structure on which the member or member's company has prepared a home inspection report, for a period of 12 months. This provision shall not include services to components and/or systems which are not included in the InterNACHI standards of practice. " I think that the above section is clear with respect to repair work by inspectors. Steve Taylor Taylor Inspection Services, Inc. Steve, I am aware of the code of ethics I just do not agree with them and hope things stay the way the state is trying to by calling for no work untill after closing. I am aware as a member of Internachi I will not be able to do anything that is against the code of ethics but I do want my opinion heard. Nick, How will they be verifing how many inspections we have done and will any type of home inspection count? "4 point, wind mitigation, citizens roof condition, etc..." |

So we should just become "HOME ANALYST" and avoid the whole inspector license thing.

No. Home inspection licensing in Florida seems fine. Yes, the grandfathering is a bit weak. There really is only one little issue regarding inspectors doing repairs, but I'll have that fixed up tomorrow.

I'm not a contractor however I've always thought that it was silly not to allow a home inspector to work on a home for a year after the inspection. This is true especially in light of the fact that so many inspectors say things like "further evaluation by...and he should repair any other items he finds..."
Do you go to a dentist, he finds a cavity and then tells you that you need to go to another dentist because since he did the check up on your mouth he cant fill the cavity for a year? We only do this to give people a sense of how ethical we are. People either are ethical or they are not, and it isn't industry wide, it's personal. There are zillions of rules and laws, and people either follow them or break them, regardless. Don't interfere with anything in the Constitution. That must be maintained, for it is the only safeguard of our liberties. Abraham Lincoln www.qualityhomeinspectionsfl.com |

Apples and Oranges my friend! The dentist do the evaluation and do the repairs (he advertise). The inspector just evaluate and provide his knowledge to his client along with some recomendation if applicable. The client comes to the inspector to inspect & evaluate the prospective home not to give quotes or perform repairs in a house that it is not yours or the client yet. Who knows if he buys the house or not. In my case I'm to busy inspecting and have no time to fool with repairs |
