I would have to agree with John. This has always been the standard and all of the courses agree on measuring the roof this way.

It is both:

The total roof system measurement, up the slope, overhang, etc. Is Compared to the bottom cord measurement of the gable.

The form does not change how we measure gables and none hip features. Therefore, measuring the gables should be done along the bottom cord as before.

The form does specifically change how we determine the measurement we compare the non hip features to. Total roof system is not the building perimeter.
